A message across the system for a few select folks to link up at the squadron briefing room, immediately, sent from Lieutenant Beckett.Adama glanced at the new notification. Briefing in the squad room. She raised an eyebrow. Some action maybe?
Tyr smiled at the notification, potential excitement. He had to put his hands together to stop them from shaking, he wasn’t sure if it was fear or excitement or a blend of the two.
A minute later she slipped in from the door behind the ‘stage’ sort of area to the right, left if you were facing it. Seeing the COS there she gave the Lieutenant a nod. “Lieutenant.”
Maria glanced over and gave her a nod. “Lieutenant. The rest should be arriving shortly. And yes, you’re going out.”
The redhead nodded, trying to keep the smile on her face in check, then made her way a few rows back and slouched in her seat, relatively hidden, for now.
Tyr arrived just a few moments after Lieutenant Farren, he’d seen the senior officer around but hadn’t had a chance to speak with her “Ma’am” HE said simply to the Security Chief before sitting down, straight as an arrow.
By the time the others were arriving, Lt Beckett was already there at the lectern working on something. When those that were notified for the brief had filtered in, she gave them all a nod. “Apologies for the suddenness of the situation. Part of the job as we all know.”
Stepping from behind the lectern, the dark-haired lieutenant stood in front of them. “We’re walking into a situation. Some of you probably have heard already. There’s a Cardassian threat to one of our research facilities. They claim that we’re doing weapon’s research. We’re not, so far as I know and have been told. I haven’t had any time to verify that, but for now, I’ll trust Command.” She glanced between each of them. “The Captain has has tasked us with significant priority on this operation. Normally, I’d ask for volunteers, but we’re short on time. And normally there’d be more of an operations plan.”
At the mention of Cardassians, Adama’s expression seemed to drop, becoming neutral.
Tyr had his usual confident smile on his face, it faltered slightly a the mention of Cardassians, he hadn’t been born until after the Dominion War but his older Brother had told him a little and of course history lessons during school, a frightening people.
“But.. We’re trained for this, experts, and professionals. We’re always flexible, we adapt, improvise, and when needed, overcome.”
“Assignments are as follows. Ensign Aza and NE Green, you’re with the Away team. The Cardassians want to inspect the facility and research. We’re likely to conduct our own. I don’t know if the Captain will be letting them or not, but the goal is to keep the away team and researchers safe. We may send additional security officers and teams, but you all will have more S.A. on the ground. You’ll be on point.” (Situational Awareness)
“Our second objective is a CAP. Captain wants extra security and teeth in the air as a show of force. And to help mitigate anything else sneaking in. The Gul is commanding a Keldon-class heavy cruiser. They have cloaks, they’ve got spiral-wave disruptors. They’re nasty. They’re not exactly in the Memorial’s weight class, but they aren’t pushovers. They can through some big punches that hurt a lot. And they might have more.” She paused for a moment. “For the CAP, that will fall to Lt Farren. She’s an experienced flight lead and squadron lead, if you haven’t met her already.” She nodded to the redhead Bajoran woman sitting in the back. “Ensign Bragason, you’re with her, along with NE Black.”
Tyr perked up, he’d been a little disappointed not to go to with the Away team but Ensigns Aza and Green were more experienced officer so it made sense for them to go planetside. He on the other hand would get to fly his first actual mission.
“I will monitor from the Memorial, and if need be fill in with either team. But if this turns into a shooting war, this gives the best positioning I can think of.” She paused. “Aza, your combination of abilities will probably come in handy for the ground team. You’re a wildcard.”
She paused just long enough to take a breath. “Bragason, you want actual flight time, this is a great opportunity and under possible combat conditions. That being said, I expect everyone to be as courteous and professional as possible. This, for now, is a diplomatic situation. If this turns into a shooting war, we messed up. Further R.o.E. are as expected. Avoid escalation. Do not fire unless fired upon. Preferably keep it to heavy stun at most, but if not, understandable. Let’s not have any firefights if we can avoid it.” She gave them all a nod.
“Yes ma’am” Tyr said simply, he was excited to be behind the proverbial wheel for the first time during an actual operation. He did find the idea of combat middling, exciting yet also dull.
Aza nodded. She’d been quiet during the whole briefing praying and hoping that she would be picked to part of the away team. When this was confirmed a huge smile spread across her face and she said, “Yes, sir!”
Tyr blinked, he was a wildcard? That might be true but he didn’t have any combat experience outside of training. He was nudged by the NE next to him and shared a grin “Wildcard?” The NE Whispered and returned his grin. Tyr didn’t say anything, he was too tense to speak.
He also got a look from Aza as she mouthed wildcard to him with a grin. Aza knew Tyr was more experienced than she was so she assumed the Lieutenant was reserving him for an undisclosed task. He wasn’t a wildcard but more like a secret weapon.
She could feel the Lieutenant’s eyes and weight of her meaning directed at her for a moment. Even though she wasn’t the type to shoot first. Or at least, wouldn’t shoot unless she had to, even if it was first. Either way, it didn’t keep the chagrined expression off of her face.
“Any questions?”
“No sir,* said Aza as she prepared to depart.
Farren didn’t have any and subtly shook her head, glancing about to see if any of the others might have thought of something she missed.

“You know your assignments. Dismissed.”

As the rest of the group dispersed Tyr made his way to the Bajoran Officer “Lieutenant Farren” He wasn’t full-on smiling anymore but his face looked like it was ready to burst into a grin at any time. He clasped his hands behind his back to stop them from shaking “Ensign Tyr Bragason, Ma’am” He hesitated for a moment “Callsign Maple” He felt his cheeks flush as he introduced himself, he had never been overly fond of his callsign as he found it to be embarrassing but that was likely why it stuck.

Aza, Security
The lieutenant pinned the ensign in her gaze for a moment, then shook his hand. “Maple. Got it. Have to hear the story behind that one when we’re back on the ground.”
Tyr could feel his cheeks heating up, that wasn’t a story he wanted to tell his superior or anyone for that matter. He was aware that it was still being told back dirtside, each version bigger than the last. “Of course ma’am” He composed himself quickly, putting on his usual self assured smile.
NE Black approached the pair. He was maybe 172 centimeters (5’ 8”) with short black hair and it looked like he hadn’t seen real sunlight in a while. Thin-framed, he was wiry and quick. “El-tee,” he said in greeting, then turned his attention to Bragason.
“Ensign Black. Maple. Let’s get suited up and on the flight line.”
Lt j.g. Farren
“Copy that” Tyr widened his smile and followed NE black, bit more pep in his step, he threw a hand over the shorter Ensign “This is gonna be something my friend” He said to the stranger “Something indeed”
