Wendell finally left his main science lab, still wearing his blue lab coat. He was famished. So he headed to the ship’s lounge.

There he sat at a table near the window overlooking the stars. He ordered a plate of three servings of chicken Alfredo. Along with some garlic bread. And a pitcher of ice cold Altarian spring water.

CSO

Already sat in the lunge was the Ships new Chief Medical Officer, he had been reading an interesting paperback he’d just replicated and enjoying a lovely fried Salmon when he noticed the Scientist enter the room. He was, of course, familiar with the man, not just as the Ships Science officer but also as the son of Gilbert Vaughn. They also had in common having both served as Chief Science Officers on the Aztec, Jack leaned in his seat and waved at the Scientist “‘Scuse me, Commander Vaughn?” He spoke in a soft northern Scottish accent. The tall Scotsman stood up and walked to the Scientist “I’m Doctor Grey, I was actually hoping to meet you, would you mind if I joined ye?”

Dr. Grey CMO

BJ had been finally released from Sickbay. He had just come out of a case of the Andorian flu. He never wanted that again. It was difficult. He was unused to the dehydration. It was finally time to take time for himself. BJ entered the lounge for something to drink and some relaxation.

Janzen- Mission Specialist

Wendell waved both of the other officers to join him. He hadn’t interacted with the rest of the crew all that much of late, having kept himself busy with lab work.

CSO

BJ noticed Wendall. He came over to the table and took a seat. “How’s your day been?”

Janzen- Mission Specialist

Jack moved his food over to the table and looked over to Janzen and gave him a friendly nod as he sat down. He said nothing, allowing the pair to greet each other first.

Jack Grey

“Long,” Wendell replied. “One of my chemists was attempting to synthesize this particular crystal, which is the only known compound that is capable of containing orientine acid.”

“Now, this acid is capable of burning through almost anything else. So she didn’t quite get the formula right for the containment crystal.”

“It burned a hole in the deck of the main science lab. Then it went right through science lab 2. And it started to eat its way through the floor plating of science lab 3 before one of the other scientists thought to isolate it in a containment force field.”

CSO

That sounded fun. It was a shame that he had missed it. “Sounds fun. Too bad I just got out of sickbay.” He remember he wasn’t the only one at the table. “I should know you. But, I don’t. Think I saw you on the way out.”

Janzen

Jack smiled at BJ “Jack Grey, I’m the new Chief of Medical, Haven’t had a time to get any real work done yet, but You’ll have seen me as I left the office. Pleasure” He gave the man a friendly nod before taking another bite of his meal.

Jack Grey

“I’m the Chief Science Officer,” Wendell said. “Wendell Vaughn. Technically, I suppose, I’m the Third Officer of the ship. Following the XO as first officer. And that new commander, who’s now the second officer.”

CSO

Jack nodded as he finished chewing and swallowing his bite “Yes, yes quite, I’m well aware of both of you” He said with a friendly smile. He placed the paperback book he’d put in his lap on the table next to his plate “I was aware of you before joining the ship, some of your staff used to work for me on the Aztec”

Jack Grey

“I’ve been cooped up the labs,” Wendell said. “Even before the ship changed the command staff, and before it was retired, and most of us stayed on as it became this dreadnaught, I pretty much kept to the labs.”

CSO

BJ wasn’t sure who this new commander was exactly. He was hoping he wasn’t it. That wasn’t why he came to the Memorial in the first place. On the bright side, he was known. Then again, he came from the flagship of the fleet. But, that was irrelevant. “I’d rather be in the lab than be sickbay. Got ideas I want to try.”

Janzen

Jack chuckled “Plenty of things to try in Sickbay Commander” He looked over Wendell “Although it’s a shame, I spent my first few years in the fleet in the Aztec labs. Shame to see it disapear.”

CMO

“I’ve never really followed ranks much,” Wendell admitted. “I’m more involved with my work as a scientist. We’ve got plenty of lab space that’s not in use. You’re welcome to use it.”

CSO

BJ agreed with that. He didn’t really like ranks that much. “If he had a problem with rank; he’d have a problem with a mission specialist who outranks him. I consider him my equal.”

Janzen

Jack leaned back slightly crossing his legs as he looked between the two “Well sure, but this is the Fleet and there is a chain of Command for a reason, ability, age and general status wise you may be equal but when it comes down to it You outrank him and he outranks me” He spoke softly with a slight smile “You get ranks based on merit and experience. I, for instance, might be higher ranking if I didn’t change occupation and specialities after a short time. But I did so I am not, ‘tis not a measurement of skill or talent but of accomplishments. I have three doctorates but only a pip and a half.” He took a short sip from his drink “Although I am curious, I’ve not served with a Mission specialist before, what does that entail?”

Jack Grey

BJ didn’t really know how to answer. He was still trying to figure that out himself. He was here to keep his family together. “I’m still figuring what I’m suppose to do. I assume I’m here for technical expertise.”

Janzen

“Probably more for when we actually get a mission,” Wendell remarked. “Have you seen the specs on our dedicated mission modules? Or, for that matter, our AI computer?”

CSO

“Not yet. Didn’t know we were getting a mission module. As for the AI; I haven’t had a chance to interact with it.”

Janzen

Zubreana had been out learning her surroundings on the Memorial. No one would be able to find a hiding place she hadn’t already found.

She made her way into the lounge hoping for a few minites to just relax. She entered the lounge and stopped briefly wondering if there was secret compartments here where someone could hide. She made note to come back and explore it at a later time.

After a few minutes she ordered laverian dish she had programmed upon her arrived. She took her meal and took it to a corner table, and put her back up against the wall so she could have a good view of those entering and leaving the lounge.

Lt. (j.g.) Azon, COS

“Our AI is a her, not an it,” Wendell said. “She’s a very sophisticated program. With a simulated human personality matrix.”

CSO

Jack considered for a moment before speaking “Where was it… she developed?” He asked curiously. He’d met androids before that took a specific gender but an unembodied Artificial Intelligence deciding a gender beyond it’s voice was something he wasn’t terribly familiar with.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“As I said. Haven’t interacted with the AI yet.” He was so sure about an AI that actually had a personality. Sounded a little to 2001 for him.
