“We’re coming up on Starbase 243, sir” the pilot said to his passenger. Ensign Christian Carter sat looking out the cockpit as the Starbase comes into view. He nodded to the pilot, to acknowledge that he heard the pilots announcement. The pilot clicks on his badge.
“Starbase 243, this is Shuttle 4657, requesting permission to dock.” he said waiting for a response.
“Shuttle 5457, what is your cargo?”, asked the voice on the other end.
“Supplies, and a passenger. Ensign Christian Carter, new security officer for USS Memorial.”, he said.
“Permission granted, Welcome aboard.”, the voice said back.
The entry into the shuttle bay was easy and all the cargo was taken off as quickly as it was put on when Carter first boarded the shuttle. A few crew members of the Memorial was there to meet him as they helped with his personal items and direct him to the ship.
It was docked with the starbase, and and the entrance was like any other quarterdeck you would know. Carter was definitely eager to get on board but his school training was kicking in.
On the quarterdeck another junior officer was there with a two man security team. Carter was sure he’d meet them later, but now just wanted to get to his quarters and get some rest before having to meet with his COS, a Lt. Beckett.
“Permission to come aboard?”, he said with a salute. He hands orders to the officer once he was instructed to. He grants it and Carter walks on to his first ship in his career. He takes it in as he follows the crewmates to his quarters, on deck 10.
They inform him that Lt. Beckett is expecting him in less than an hour. Inform him how to get to the security department and to her office.
Once they leave Carter gets prepared, shower, shave and a clean pressed uniform. He walks out of his quarters and heads for the nearest lift to go to deck 11 where the security office is located. He finds the office, with PaDD in hand and hits the chime on the side to let the COS he’s there.
((hey Chris, don’t forget to sign off. It’s not that big of an oops but for the future. :) ))
The office was quiet. Behind the desk Lieutenant Beckett frowned into her mug. In front of her were dozens of reports and streams of intelligence reports. After serving so long on Outpost 42 and then delving into intelligence, then Strategic Operations, she always kept an eye on what was going on their region. It was just good business. But more than that, she kept an eye on friends and enemies alike. And maybe, just someday, she’d catch the one that got away. A Suliban operative that had run circles around her on Op42 when she’d been a green-ish ensign.
A soft chime played from her terminal. Reaching over, she brought up the notification. New arrival - Ensign Carter, the ship’s computer dutifully informed her. She nodded approval to herself then set a note in the agenda for him to report ASAP. He was expected of course. Once again she pulled up his file. Some folks in the Academy were impressed, and he had good marks all around. Good. Hopefully, he’d do more than look good on paper.
Securing the intelligence reports, she turned her attention to the flight deck. They were getting the cutlass class fighters seen to. Good.
The appointed time approached, and when that silvery chime rang through the office, the lieutenant rolled her shoulders and policed her expression. “It’s open,” she called out.
As Ensign Carter made his way in he’d be greeted by a woman in her late thirties, though frequent vigorous exercise and excellent diet would have made her appear to be in her mid twenties. Not to mention the excellent healthcare Starfleet usually provided. Piercing ocean blue eyes took in his six foot four inch frame and over two hundred and thirty pounds quickly. Sizing him up and breaking him down in that way of a career fighter. But at the same time, she took him in socially. how he stood, walked, talked. he was minty, shiny new, fresh off the academy line. No rough edges yet. Or rather the rough edges had been sanded and polished off.
Her own uniform was pristine. Her raven’s wing black hair pulled back into a tight bun. “Ah, Ensign Carter. Welcome aboard the U.S.S. Memorial,” she said, standing up and offering a hand in greeting. Her voice was smooth and velvety, with the barest hint of smoke, likely leftover from much yelling and shouting during the Academy and other emergency events. Or perhaps a little bit of actual smoke damage. “I take it you’re finding your way about the ship alright so far,” she continued, then jerked her thumb toward the small replicator nearby. “Can I get you something?”
Lt Beckett, COS
(OCC: thanks totally forgot about that)
Carter stood in front of the Lieutenants desk with his PaDD in hand. He could tell that she was sizing him up. Probably wondering if he and his reputation at the academy is as good as his record indicated. He couldn’t press on that. Besides, he’s here because he has alot to prove to his father. Lt. Beckett raised her arm for greeting and e took it and returned the greeting. “Thank you ma’am,” he said to her. “I’m looking forward to getting started. Though I can say I’ve never been on a Memorial Class ship before.”
She asked him “I take it you’re finding your way about the ship alright so far.” He nodded to her. “Yes,” he said. “Though I’m very interested in this ship because of the Ship’s AI Entity. It’s one of the main reasons why I chose the Memorial.”
The Lieutenant motioned towards the replicator asking if she could get him something.
“Thank you ma’am. I appreciate it, but I’m ok.”
“However, I just wanted to say what an honor it is to be serving with you, a hero.” He said. “I was doing some research on you when I found out I was coming here. I saw the report about the hijacking and hostage situation. I hope one day I can be as great.”
He looked at her for a brief second, and then realized he hadn’t given her his PaDD. “Here Lieutenant, my orders of you need them”
He outreach his arm with PaDD in hand towards her.
