While awaiting the answer, she murmured to Faye. “Thank you for not killing the Captain, or Wyatt. Whatever it is, isn’t worth adding murder to.”

Faye snorted. “Trust me, I wasn’t planning on hurting anyone. I was serious about what I told you. I might have made people look bad, but I think when you look at the evidence you’ll see I was very careful. At best, I was an inconvenience.”

Pretha nodded as they neared the brig. “I believe you. And I’ll stand by my word. I’ll make sure you get a fair shake and that Wyatt’s behavior is noted.” While she would never confess to a prisoner that she disagreed with a Department Head, she also wasn’t gonna condone what he said or did.

As they came to the door, she nodded to the guard posted there to open the door.

With a nod, the guard opened the door and stepped to the side. As she followed them in, Pretha’s words trickled into Faye’s brain and she frowned. “His behaviour? What do you mean by that?” She wasn’t going to resist going into the cell but nor was she going to happily prance there, so her movements were slower.
