Faye glared at him. “You want to talk.... really? And people think I’m the socially difficult person.” It almost made her laugh. Just enough that the corners of her mouth tugged upwards for a brief moment.

“I’m here eating at, gods know what hour it is now, because my work is that important that sometimes I don’t get dinner till a little while before bed,” Faye remarked. It was as good as it was going to get for the moment. After all, what did he expect, them to suddenly switch off and be bff’s who braided each other’s hair and gossiped?

He shrugged, “Its got to be better than whatever it is we’re usually doing. I can’t sleep because of my work and you don’t sleep because of yours, it’s toe-mate-oh, toe-mart-oh” Luke ate another spoonful of the stew and was leased it still filled him with a homely warmth. “I don’t think you’re socially awkward, I think you just don’t think you like people.”

That made her actually laugh and it was, perhaps, an unexpected release of tension. “Oh, I can tell that you somehow haven’t been exposed to the rumour mill around here.” She picked up her spoon, and it was perhaps an indication that she wasn’t about to abandon her dinner just yet. “You might want to pay attention to that. Even in the craziest fiction there are threads of truth. Now, discerning the truth from the fiction is an entirely different matter.”

Faye leaned forward slightly, gazing at him with her piercing eyes. “But give you a hint. You’re right that I don’t tend to like people, but not all people. Just the ones that irritate me. The list is long sadly, but it is what it is.”
