She laughed, something that happened frequently around him. “I can say this is the first. Though, there was the time that I had a CO try to force a promotion on me. This is of course back when I was dealing with harassment from the science chief and also trying to keep my former association with the Maquis a secret. He told me I was to be the new CSO when ours got promoted to XO, and I said no. I didn’t want the job. Not to mention I was twice as difficult to work with than I am now, so like hell people were going to take orders from me. It was my idea of a nightmare, and you an imagine how well my saying no went over. He did make the promotion to jay gee official though,” she said with another laugh. She could laugh now. Back then? Not so much.

Mouth agape, Faye reached over the table and playfully swatted him on the arm. “You take that back Alex!” she said seriously, despite the gleam in her eyes. “That is a disaster and a half waiting to happen! Besides, Command would take one look at the application and laugh themselves across the quadrant!”
