“Really?” Faye said, a gleam appearing in the pale depth of her eyes. Picking up a couple more, she sucked off the bit of glaze that stuck to them and then dropped them into her glass with a tiny bit of glee. “I always did like chemistry,” she joked.

“I’ll have to look raspberries up. Tracken had a bunch of native berries that we used for a variety of things, and Markalain had brought some seeds for this really interesting berry from Neethia that we grew in the gardens and made the best pie I’ve ever had in my life. To this day, I’ve never had better.” She sat up a bit. “I should see if I can get my hands on some seeds and grow them in our garden here.” Her tone was thoughtful, and Faye couldn’t help but let her mind drift back to the people she had once known. side from her parents two best friends, she never really spoke about the other colonists. For the longest time it had been too painful. Now… it was starting to feel okay.

Cochrane jersey his head towards the kitchen. “Ask Harv. How that man gets some of the things he cooks with is a mystery.” and he chuckled. He looked at Faye for a moment and then said “So what do you think of the cake?” and took another bite of his own.

“Best cake I’ve ever had,” Faye said sincerely. “But I will preface that by saying that it’s the first cake I’ve had since my recovery. For the longest time food was so… difficult for me and I actually lost a lot of my tastebuds for awhile. Now it’s a lot better.” She lifted her index finger in warning. “Which is why when we make hasperat together, you’re going to have to taste as we go to make sure I don’t burn your taste buds off because I can’t taste milder heat,” she said with a laugh.

He laughed and said “Well, I like my food with a lot of heat. So I think we’ll be okay.” He took another bite of cake and spent a bit longer than usual chewing and swallowing. He then set his fork to the side and looked at Faye.

“So now that the work is done… how are you feeling? I know the project served to both insulate you from people and as a distraction. How do you think you will cope now?” His tone was gentle, not critical.
