She couldn’t help but smile. “I’m glad for all our sakes that it worked out,” Faye replied as she moved back to her usual table. There were reasons she favoured the bank of tables near the window but it wasn’t just some sort of stargazing opportunity. She was honestly curious about what Harv was making and surprised Alex had asked him to. But she vividly remembered the stew he had made and was looking forward to whatever awaited her.

A few moments passed and then the doors opened and Cochrane came through them. He glanced around and then saw Faye in the empty dining room and he smiled and held up a bottle with gold foil around the top. “Wouldn’be a celebration without champagne, now would it?” and he laughed. He walked over and sat down, setting the bottle to the side and then looked at Faye. “Sorry about that. Replicators never get the bubbles quite right.”

She considered him for a moment, perhaps more than surprised she should have be. After all, if there was anything she had learned about Alexander Cochrane, it was that he was a man of his word and his word was his honour. Or at least a part of it. He had promised champagne- even if had been slightly jokingly- so why should she be so surprised right now? “I wouldn’t know…” she said honestly, despite her tiny grin. “Can’t say I’ve had many celebrations.” It wasn’t a comment meant to gather pity or anything stupid like that, just an honest remark about her reality. Celebrations were a distant memory, left to the idealism of childhood.

“You’ll have to teach me how this is supposed to go,” she added, smiling a bit more- enough that it reached her eyes, tiny creases forming.
