Faye folded her arms on the desk and leaned forward, gazing into his eyes deeply. “And what do you think would happen when the Tal Shiar learn their lost prisoner asset, experiment, whatever you want to call me, suddenly had the ability to give up the goods to someone else? If it’s out of my head, so much the better. But then it’s out. And information wars spawn deeper conflicts. We’re talking the kind of stuff Creed was walking about his family being involved in here. It gets dangerous… fast.” Definitely more dangerous then the path they were already treading.

He looked at her and said “So if it’s out, that causes a war. If it’s in, that makes you a target. That about the sum of it?” he asked, trying to get the issue boiled down to the simplest terms he could.

Faye shrugged. “That about sums it up. But honestly, this stuff in my head is not even the first concern. It’s a factor, but right now there’s an investigation into me, and people I’ve been associated with. And I have a woman I haven’t seen in twenty-five years being asked to do the digging.” She leaned back and sighed, but then her head tilted and Faye’s eyes lit up. “And I think I might have an idea. It’s crazy, but it might just draw the people in the shadows out far enough for us to get something from them.”
She leaned forward farther, her face absolutely serious, but an almost excitement in her eyes. “You need to arrest me,” she said simply before grinning. “And we need to make it look good too.”

Cochrane looked at her for a moment and said “Well… my thought was to get the information and give it to a neutral third party so nobody has it. But I’ll bite… why would I arrest you, Faye? And what will that accomplish? Remember… we are pretty much on our own out here. Word may travel fast… people not so much.”

Well, he didn’t call her crazy, even though she knew her idea was bonkers. “Because my handler is stationed at Starbase Event Horizon,” she said simply, knowing that detail was important. “And we can assume that if Blue is compromised or someone else around him is, that they aren’t that far away. And they’re paying attention. Think about it Alex. If Creed is right and there is a group out there gathering tech and feeding it where they want it, then there’s a good chance that some of the stuff I have been using is connected to them. And if it is, they certainly are keeping an eye on things. By arresting me, and making sure it’s public, word will spread fast and we need it to spread fast. I’m innocent, so it’s not an act to maintain my innocence. But we can have… her say there’s evidence to the contrary. Make those hiding in the shadows think that their plot is being unravelled. And if their ultimate goal is to get the info in my head, then they will assume that Intelligence is doing something about it. It buys us time, and we desperately need that. Or rather, I that. I need time, Alex. I’m innocent and I need to be proven guilty, but let’s not be foolish enough to think that there isn’t someone out there willing to manufacture the evidence they need to prove my guilt.” She rubbed her hands together, her mind calculating the variables as quickly as they entered her mind. “Don’t you see? this does keep me safe. I’m guarded. If we keep those around me to those we know for sure we can trust, then I have a chance! I’m tired of being defensive. It’s about damn time I went on the offensive.” She couldn’t have hid her fervour if she tried. There was too much at stake and if they went this route, they could deal with both situations and maybe for once she could truly have the life she could only barely imagine.

Cochrane motioned for her to calm down. “Hold on… just wait a second. Innocent of what? And why do you need to be found guilty? You know that requires a tribunal and then a Court Martial, right? And I’m not sure we can conduct those here… or even on the station. We would have to have a pretty damn solid reason for keeping this on the Manhattan. And if we try and they yank you back to the Alpha Quadrant… your whole plan is screwed up because if we are right… Faye… I’ve dealt with people like this. They’ll kill you rather than be exposed, information or not. The second you are off this ship… I dont know if we could help you. If you want me to arrest you, I will. But you have to make sure this stay here… maybe the station. But no further.”

No one would ever claim Faye to be the most rational person around, and his counterpoints made her refocus. he didn’t get it, did he? She saw the writing on the wall, she understood the terrible position her mother was placed in. Surely Creed already suspected that this is where things were headed, right? She templed her hands and tapped her finger tips together several times before spreading her hands apart. “Treason,” she said simply, gazing at him in slight confusion. “That’s what this whole thing is about. You understand that, right? The investigation into my orders, into my activities is to figure out if I’m a part of whatever treason activities are going on. Because an attempt to undermine Starfleet and the Federation is treason. That’s what I’m having to fight against now.”

Cochrane locked her with a look that said Oh hell no. and then stepped his fingers in return. “That would get you hauled off to Starbase One faster than I could send the order, Faye, and you know it. Treason is too much.” and he though about it for a long moment, just looking at her… then he cocked his head slightly.
“But espionage… that we could certainly handle on the ship. That’s a crime of ‘We know you did it but not quite for who’. I can mention the possibility this may lead to a charge of treason to spice it up. And the added bonus is that whomever we are acting against may underestimate what we suspect, and not be as careful. Thoughts?” he asked.
