Posted by… suppressed (2) by the Post Ghost! 👻With medical busy at the moment, Pretha’s check in had been usurped by an order from the Captain to meet in his office. It seemed a bit odd. But from the chatter about the ship, which she wandered while killing time, something big was going no having to do with the planet below. The XO wasn’t even on the ship and the mention of Diplomats being involved piqued her curiosity.
She arrived at his office five minutes prior to the appointed time and tapped the chime. If he wasn’t here yet, she would wait. From what she had gathered, this was going to be an interesting assignment.
Lt Pretha Oberon
Security/CRIT LeaderThe door silently slid open to reveal the office beyond. The office was organized, but had the feel of both authority… and peace. Two bookcases on one wall stood with shelves lined with actual books behind their glass doors. Pictures had been mounted around the room showing both places and people, many of them featuring the same person. Various odds and ends graced places here and there.
Displayed prominently, however, alone on a shelf high up on the wall directly behind the desk that sat opposite the door, was the lone figure of a gold Ox. Lighting had been directed so that it drew the eye of anyone who came through the door almost immediately.
Seated behind the desk was the Captain. He looked up as the doors opened. His hair was black, making the bright blue eyes beneath the well-groomed hair even more intense. He had a youthful appearance, somewhat more so than the Captain’s pips at his collar would seem to indicate. He smiled, but it had a hint of fatigue with it. He stood up and, holding out his hand, he said with a slight British accent “Lieutenant Oberon. It is indeed a pleasure to have you aboard. I apologize for the curt greeting earlier. As I’m sure you can guess, we are in the middle of something and are still trying to get things sorted. Please, sit.” and he indicated a chair.

She came in and headed for the offered hand. A quick handshake and she was lowering herself into the chair. Her eyes had taken in the room in a cursory glance and then focused on the man behind the desk. “It seems I either showed up at the best or worst time, Sir. I am sorry if it is the latter. And no apologies necessary. I was a little stunned to see you there, but was glad it was not as a patient.” She sat down and crossed her legs, getting comfortable without getting familiar. She noted the fatigue and wondered just how bad it was.

Sec/CRIT“I’ll have a mission briefing to you immediately. And when we finish here, I’m going to send you to the surface to assist the Security Chief. But for now…” and he pulled a file up and slid a PaDD to her, “… this is your new job.”
On the PaDD was an order from Star Fleet Command approving a new kind of Security team. The inaugural incarnations of the teams would be done on the USS Atlantis and the USS Manhattan. The teams will be tasked with rapid-response and intervention requiring specialized tactics, equipment, and specifically trained personnel. ‘Containment - Response - Intervention - Tactics’, or CRIT teams, will act as the chief responding group to all off-ship endeavors; including, but not limited to: Away Team Security, Boarding Operations, Crisis response, hostage extraction, and repelling boarders. The concept was developed by Commander Gravel Mardusk, CoS, USS Atlantis and Captain Alexander Cochrane, Commanding Officer, USS Manhattan.
Cochrane looked at Oberon and said “So that’s why you are here. You will pick your team, train them, equip them, and lead them. That is in addition to your regular duties. Think you can handle that, Lieutenant?” he asked with a slight smile. He knew that such a team, if successful, would be a career catapult for anyone placed in charge of it. And to be the first team leader? Quite possibly historic.

She took the PaDD and looked swiftly over the Directive and orders. As he asked asked if she could handle it, she smiled slightly and looked up at him nodding. “Yes, Sir. I’m definitely up for it. I will go thru the personnel files, of course, and work to see who will be on the team. But I would love your input on suggested folks to look at or who you already had in mind. I can’t imagine you creating this with me as the only person you had in mind so far.” She grinned a knowing smile at him and cocked her head wondering what he was holding back or what else this entailed.

Sec/CRIT“I may have a few candidates. In fact, one of them I want you to meet immediately. Ensign Ch’qirross. He’s handling security for our Diplomat. Why dont you grab the mission briefing and head down to the planet. I’m sure he’d like someone along. After all of this is handled, we will reconvene and finish up. Sound good?”
Cochrane, CO
Pretha made a quick note on the PaDD about the man and nodded. “Yes, Sir. I’m ready. I head to the transporter room now. Armed, I’m assuming?” She smiled.
Pretha
“Negative. We are here on a good-will mission. Better engage your brain before your trigger finger, Lieutenant.” he said with a smile.
Cochrane, CO
Pretha laughed with a small nod. “Best weapon we have, Sir. Permission to join the Away Team?” She moved to the edge of her seat, preparing to rise. This sounded like it was a posting she was going to love. Pity Vash wasn’t going to be here with her. But she couldn’t fault him, he was doing the same job on his ship. She silently wished him well, once more, and waited for her dismissal.
