OOC: Pasting ..
Max waited for a more official reply to come from the Captain than the one in his mind, and he glanced sideways to Jasmine for a moment. His eyebrows narrowed just slightly, one ever so slightly raised, he knew that Jasmine would know what was on his mind. Max tended to have a low opinion of suits, and the Gravinian principle engineer looked young to hold the position. His first thought was the man was a paper engineer considering the problems they were facing, although he tried not to let first impressions take hold too much.

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

It didn’t take long for Aeric Tov to push forward as well toward Wynter. “Tov,” he said, thrusting his hand out. “Beautiful shuttle you have. Sleek. Trim. Love the nacelle design. She’s an economy of engineering.” He glanced toward the Kazon ship and sighed. While it appeared ‘dramatic’ it was evident that Tov was expressive and wasn’t trying to be a drama queen. “Would that more put beauty into their designs.”
- Aeric

Shaking the mans hand, Max let his comments about their own shuttle slide and looked over to the Kazon ship. “Not every beautiful thing has to be sleek. Many good engineering builds are a function of design and need over aesthetics, sometimes making it look fancy just gets in the way and affects operation. The Kazon ships serve a purpose, and for them they are highly effective. There is beauty in that.”

“If you can’t take the time to make what you design to be pleasing, what’s the point?” he said, glancing to the Kazon ship and shaking his head. “On Graven we try to do that. Since we’re not pushing on to bigger things like space flight and new machines and the like we try to make what we have better, efficient, appealing.” He grinned, flashing his teeth, after that moment of seriousness that he shook off. “It’s just what we do.”

Kaia stood beside her DH, looking around in wonder. She caught the eyes of a few natives and other visitors on her, likely wondering what she was, and why a being as small as a child was hanging around in Engineering Yellows. She let them wonder, focusing on this Tov fellow.

Kaia, Engineer

“Mr Tov this is Ensign Kaia, my assistant Chief Engineer.” Max introduced the two.

Tov looked at Kaia as though noticing for the first time. “Forgive me. I am rude. I am Tov.” He knelt and extended his hand. “I know some beings can be small. You’re my first. What is your specialty?” He then caught himself. “Here, there are a great deal of specialties. Do you do that? Or are you broadly schooled?” Tov glanced from Kaia to Wynter, then to the shuttle.
- Tov

Kaia placed her hand to her chest and bowed her head slightly, the typical greeting among her species. With her hands being such a different shape and size from the normal humanoid hands, it was also a more practical greeting. Handshakes were uncomfortable. “I am Kaia of Galdor. Pleased to meet you. I have no particular specialty, although I am more interested in practical application than anything theoretical. I do enjoy studying robotics and artificial intelligence though,” she said in a cheerful, friendly voice. “And engines. I really like engines.”

Kaia, Engineer

“Starfleet Engineers are proficient in a wide range of specialties,” Max explained, “most who work on Starships have extensive experience in many, while those who work on Starbases or in labs tend to specialize more. Kaia here really likes engines.” Smiling, Max turned his eyes back to the Kazon for a moment, then watched the other groups including his wife as they began to depart.

Tov .. winked at Kaia at that admission of the engines.

“I like engines too.” He made a bit of a scrunched up face. “Most of my time it seems in my position is looking at a wide range of engineering disciplines and practices. I don’t get to look at things like that baby over there that you came down on.” He looked over Kaia’s shoulder at their shuttle they came down on. “My guess is that it will do a pretty impressive sub-light acceleration, and, with the nacelles, faster than light?”

“That’s right, it’s one of our latest shuttle designs but we still keep sub-light to maximum safe standard. Time dilation isn’t fun if you get it wrong. She achieves a good Warp speed as well but, our concerns here are more grounded in nature, shall we?”

Tov sighed, evidently a slight theatrical bent to it. “So true.” He laughed. “Your boss likes puns I see.” Then to Wynter. “Very grounded.”

Standing he slapped his hands on his knees to brush off non existent dust. “Unfortunately my problem isn’t a ship design like that but a corrosion problem in our geothermal tubes. I’ve got a vehicle.” He gestured at the science group heading toward a bug like beast. “Knots had dibs on the lift so she gets to fly. We get an ‘official’ car, but I’d like to take you in mine. Not so stuffy. It’s just over there.”

He gestured to what was a much sportier vehicle. Still having the similar line design and ‘Jetson’ like dome overtop it was lower to the pavement and was, by all appearances, the Graven equivalent of a muscle car.
- Tov

Kaia couldn’t hide the excitement upon seeing the sleek, sporty vehicle, and she looked over at her DH. “I call, as I believe humans call it, shotgun,” she spoke quickly, then ran over to the vehicle, running her hands over the seams and examining it. “You would love to see inside our vehicle. I would love to see inside this one if we have time after we figure out the corrosion problem. She is beautiful,” she exclaimed, eyes wide in wonder as she looked for the doors.

Kaia, eng

“Thank you,” Tov said, evidently proud. He tapped something on his hip and the top swished back in the blink of an eye revealing very plush seats and what was a mix of wood and gleaming metal panels. There did not appear to be any controls beyond a steering wheel that was crafted to be more like a pilot’s control wheel on ages old aircraft.

“You get the front,” Max grinned as he walked towards the car. “Nice ride, what do you use to power it?”

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

Kaia clambered into the front passenger seat of the car, the end of her tail twitching slightly as she crouched. She’d not been in a ground-based vehicle for a long time. Not since leaving home. She was looking forward to the sensation of acceleration that only a car could provide.

Ooc: Assistant CE, eh? Didn’t know that was Kaia’s position! Lol.
- Miriam

OOC: Congrats! Field promotion :P

-Dave

“We are all on battery powered vehicles. There are some rare earths that are not so rare on one of our moons that are quite efficient in battery construction and in both storage and what power can be brought out in the energy transaction shall we say.” Tov sat and put his hands on the wheel. There was a faint hum as it powered up. On the screen on a kind of heads up display could be seen. “Controls are voice operated or off the steering console. It is, as well, self driving.” He spoke into the air. “Map plot and execute to Thermal Station Yekut. Optimum path.” Moments later it drove off with them.
- Tov

Kaia watched out the windows, her eyes flicking quickly from one roadside sight to another with a lot of energy. She looked forward to being able to talk about this adventure with Kiama later.

Kaia, Engineer (aCE, apparently :P )
