While Kaia talked to the Chief Engineer, Kiama walked over to her replicator and ordered to glasses of water. With the drinks in hand, she returned to Kaia and placed the glass close to her, but not right next to the drone. She then settled down close by as well, but remained silent as she didn’t want to interrupt the conversation.

“You’re welcome. And please call me Kiama,” the scientist replied with a broad smile. After taking a sip from her own glass of water, she asked, “How long have you been on the Manhattan?”

“Quite some time. I think it has been a year or two. I… I have been in this Quadrant for that entire time. I miss my people.” She admitted. To be honest, although the engineer had cemented her place within the department, she hadn’t really made any lasting friendships.

“Oh wow,” said Kiama in a hushed voice. “That is long time without returning home. Especially if you would like to.” Suddenly an idea popped into her head and she didn’t even think twice before asking, “Could you recreate your home on the holodeck? I’d love to see it, if you wouldn’t mind taking me.”

“I have a program that recreates a few specific environments,” Kaia said with a small nod, then was silent for a few moments, focusing on the repair. She pulled away after a moment. “I am also a part of a communication network that some Officers from my planet set up a few decades ago for Galdori in Starfleet. It is an interesting way to keep up with everything. For example, I know that there is a Laleri named Lukagu who is the Executive Officer of a ship called the Athena,” she commented.

With her left elbow resting on her thigh and her chin resting in the palm of her hand, Kiama watched Kaia working on the repairs of the drone. It always impressed her to see engineers do such delicate work. The smile on her dark features widened as Kaia mentioned the communications network. “That is awesome. I’m glad you have that way of keeping up with everything. Does it help with you feeling lonely at times?” she asked softly.

Kaia nodded. “Not completely. Not always. But it does help a little most of the time. It is… it is not the same as being near other Raka. We have a kind of… telepathic connection. It is hard to explain. Unlike the telepathy of your species, which works on basically everyone, our, um, empathic link only works with Galdori. All five species 0 including the Pipini. And it is a constant thing in our minds. Like the hum of an engine, I guess. So… being without it is, I would say, like suddenly being unable to see in colour. I think it is easier to explain to a Betazoid, as you have a sense outside the physical reality to compare to. Trying to explain how it feels to humans has left me running in circles.”

OOC: something interesting about the peoples of Galdor - their language doesn’t include contractions, just because of how it’s structured. So they don’t use them in english. it’s HARD to write and remember that.
