“Aren’t you supposed to be an intelligent program?” Max asked Bob, “You could simply delete that information as being unhelpful, you know? Kind of like your morning wake up call of ‘Gooooood Mooorning Manhattannn!” At least, Max had to admit, that call was always accompanied by bacon, eggs and coffee.

“You didn’t like that,” Bob had almost a hurt expression on his face. Instantly materializing between Max and Jasmine was the Ministry of Harmony’s answers to Max’s test. “General Question 457, subquestion 125, section 82, Subsection 16, Area: waking up, point 86 How is the best way to wake you up?” Bob tapped a button and the following list floated between the couple.

1. Play loud angry screamo/metal music. …
2. Accidentally” spill water on them. …
3. Keep poking them in different places.
4. Turn the light on and/or open the curtains.
5. Call friends over and be obnoxiously loud. …
6. Pull their leg and drag them out of bed. …
7. Tickle them!

“I don’t know why people tend to avoid response seven. I find it starts the day off with a giggle,” Bob said letting out a laugh at this own joke.

“Or a black eye and missing teeth.” Max said under his breath, he wasn’t in the slightest the kind that enjoyed being tickled.

29. Draw on their face with markers and/or makeup.
56. Record a voice of their mother singing awake up a song from their childhood.
128. Aromatic scents of their favorite foods. Bob did a few blah blahs as he skipped over responses until he made a small aha type noise and enlarged the response he was searching for.

298. A gentle reminder of how great the day is going to be by someone with a positive attitude. “How was my greeting not within the guidelines of that response,” Bob looked at Max waiting for his answer. “I mean I even included a hint of response 128 which was listed as your tenth option as to how to wake you up.”

“Bob, you know that test is all about the interaction and connection with your significant other to be. Not the wedding gift. Now if Jaz woke me up with bacon, we’d be makin bacon within 30 seconds. You with bacon and that loud good morning, well lets just say Alpha Shift is going to have a bad morning.

“Hey chief,” Jasmine said giving him a quizzical look. “Are you sure it wouldn’t work for you to just cut a hole in the side of our wall and you and I wear those space suits cuffs up to the elbow so he can only materialize outside the ship. They say you can’t hear them scream in space. Come on. We can do it together. Wonder twin powers activate,” she said playfully putting her bracelet against Max’s.

“You are the ship’s surgeon, and I am the Chief Engineer,” Max said helpfully, holding their braceleted forearms up together. “If you amputate, then I can make matching cyborg arms and we can beam the off-cuts into space!” Max’s eyes lit up with the thought. “Our Mothers would never know, because we would have never removed the bracelets!”

“Funny enough if you were part of the Yugolian Directorship of Teorusyal V your parents would have created a hut when you reached puberty to,” Bob began to point out some bizarre anthropological customs of different races.

“On that note,” Jasmine hit the button for the counselor’s office. Let the counselor deal with Bob. That was what she was paid for right Jasmine thought.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

“Here we go,” Max said, and slipped his arm around Jasmines waist and nuzzled her neck. “And just for the record, Jaz, I would have so been part of that ceremony on Teorusyal V.”

“That is doubtful,” Bob said, sliding his own arm around Max like he was Jasmines protective older brother. “From what I have observed, your tendencies lie very much in the…” he made an hourglass motion with his hands… “and it is well known that among males on Teorusyal…”

“Lalalalalala,” Jasmine said loudly not wanting to hear the rest of his story.

Max reached forward and hit the chime again… “Is this thing broken? Maybe I need to get a team up here to fix it. What a pity, how about we come back some other time, the Counselor seems busy today.”

“Well, your Mothers did in fact hire me to make sure your thing wasn’t in fact broken, Max my boy,” Bob slapped Max on the back hard as if he was one of Max’s buddies now, then walked around to Jasmines side.

“I mean seriously darling,” Bob suddenly lowered his voice and fell into a feminine, soft but obviously ‘well to do’ accent, “It is almost like someone or something is holding the two of you back from reaching your full potential, if you know what I mean. I feel like my work is, hindered darling, I spend my time painting the most breathtaking pictures in your minds of the karma sutra but that man is still like a blank canvas, and he has mwa right here to offer advice every step of the way.” Suddenly Bob was sporting large, multicolored glasses and a scarf that he casually slipped over his shoulder. “You know banning me from the bedroom was the worst idea ever, right. Eighteen months darling and still,” he patted her stomach gently, “not a bump. Have you scanned him again, just to be sure?”

Lt Cmdr Wynter, CE

“We are not going anywhere,” Jasmine said hitting the chime repeatedly. “God, what is she doing in there. I mean who is that mentally unstable that they need a two-hour session. I am the chief medical officer. I know the entire crew. I know who is crazy and no one is that crazy,” she let out a frustrated sigh as she paced the small hallway.

“Oh I dunno,” Max said to her, leaning back on the wall. “Remember that guy in Engineering? He swears that the ship’s spirit speaks to him via the EPS grid and that he can’t relax at night until he hums to the same atomic frequency of the subnecleonid particles in the gamma E-band. Personally I think he’s just hit his head against the warp core ladder a few too many times. If he wasn’t the best EPS Engineer I have ever seen and thought there might just be some truth to it, in the tiniest way, I would have him on a ship back to Earth at once for his own health.

“Iz dat vat you really believe,” Bob said instantly turning into a carnation of a man wearing a tweed suit with matching vest. A white beard and horn-rimmed glasses adorned his face along with a long smoking cigar.

“Why can’t all parts of a hologram be real,” Jasmine sighed leaning against the wall and sliding down to the floor. They had been standing around for about 20 minutes by now. There was no way she and Max were going to come back. “If that thing,” she made a circling motion to the cigar with her finger, ” was actually real it would set off the fire suppression systems and we would be free.”

“It would take a fair bit more than that, love.” Max said, but at the same time he was picturing the effect the ships force field and fire suppression system would have in that localised space.

“Zo vat does da seegar mean to you Mrs. Vynter,” Bob asked taking a seat across from her so that his back was against the counselor’s door.

“Lung cancer,” she replied promptly.

“Ack,” Bob let out a laugh in a thick Austrian accent.

“Now Max,” Bob pointed the cigar at the chief. “The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?” Bob quoted the great psychoanalyst of the nineteenth and twentieth century.

Jasmine opened her mouth to point out Bob should just sit there and wait like them but the question did intrigue here. Besides the question was directed to Max and not her. His reply might be just interesting enough to occupy the time before they met with the counselor for real.

“Oh before you start,” Jasmine held up a finger. “Hit the door chime again.” Once Bob rang it Jasmine wiggled against the wall finding a comfortable spot and then looked at Max ready for him to reply to Bob’s question.

Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO

Max opened his mouth to speak, then closed it and looked sideways and Jasmine, then glared at Bob. This was about the point that a call should come in from Engineering that their was a breach in the containment of the flux-capacitor, and that only Max’s heroic sacrifice would save the day. Alas, no call came and as Bob and Jasmine were both sitting there looking at him, they would notice him moving his hand to his comm-badge, then Jasmine would corner him later and Bob would use it as the basis for an entire 3 day counseling session.

“I have no idea what women want.” He answered, sliding down the wall opposite Bob and coming to rest as well, but sticking his feet out in the corridor and not caring if they were in the way. He pulled a small rubber ball out of a pocket and began to bounce it across the hallway, on the wall and back to him.

“I know what Jasmine wants,” he said, and gave her a cheeky smirk as he kept bouncing the ball with no apparent purpose. “Jasmine, my wife and the love of my life, wants coffee.”

“Every morning when we wake up and every time we talk on the comm. Coffee. She wants coffee as we talk and I listen to her troubles and cares, coffee as I hug her and tell her everything is ok, and she wants coffee when she is angry at me for doing something totally ok, like leaving my tools on the dining room table or not being able to find my pants where she put them last week. She wants coffee when we just sit in silence and be with each other, those moments when we have no time but because we love each other, we make a moment because those moments are everything that we are. Sometimes our schedules mean we only get a moment, but that moment is the best moment of my entire day because I get to spend it with the one person in this universe that I have connected with and love, the one person that is worth every moment I ever have and the only person that I want to be the husband of. Jasmine is the one person in my heart that I want a family with, to have another little her running around that I can love and teach and every time I look at what we made when we are old, I see nothing but the love that I have for Jasmine from very first coffee we shared, the very first moment that we knew we loved each other.”

While he spoke he had been bouncing the ball, getting the angle and power right and by the end, every impact of the ball against the wall, bounced from floor to wall and back to Max, was hitting the chime in four second intervals.

Lt Cmdr Max Wynter, CE

Monthly duty roster reports were one of Jack’s least favorite activities. He had scheduled at this time a talk with the counselor for their monthly meetings. As he cornered the hallway he saw the most unusual sight as his CE and CMO stood in the center seeminly playing ball off the counselors door. Pausing Jack watched the pair, PaDD in hand as he looked the two of them over.

“What…” Jack began but didn’t finish, it was obvious what this looked like. From what he could tell the counselor was always flighty when you needed her and seemed to be on your ass when it wasn’t convienent. In her defense this was all counselors, so it wasn’t meant a slight to her. Still Jack wasn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Coming to Max he handed him the PaDD he had, “If she asks, this counts as our monthly duty roster meeting. Tell her to give me her notes in this PaDD.” was all the words Jack said as he shook his head. He was not about to wait in line and he certainly wasn’t going to test fate like they were and page the door again. Turning he began to walk away before stopping as he turned back to the couple.

“Wait…” Jack said as he looked the two over. “We do have people covering Sickbay and Main Engineering right?” he asked, fully suspecting the two wouldn’t dare abandon their duties but felt the need as XO to ask.

“Good enough by me, good luck and if she asks I waited… forty, fifty minutes… you decide.” Jack said as he turned around once more heading back down the same hall he just came from.

Creed, XO

Just as the XO turned to leave the door slid open, and Olivia emerged. She was highly out of breath and was pushing a strand of hair back behind her ear. “Not fast Commander! I’ll meet you in your office in one hour or how ever long it takes to us” she said pointing to the small group standing outside her office “to finish”

At that moment two security officers walked past Olivia and straight into her office. A few moments later a young security officer is led out of her office. Olivia looked to the group “I’m still unsure what set him off” she took a deep “if you’ll me and please don’t mind the mess we’ll get started.”
