William checked the map once more and ran his hand through his blond hair before entering the sickbay that he hoped was the correct one. It had been already a trial just finding his way to his quaters that he was about to tear the map in half out of frustration. However when he walked in and saw that it was indeed the place he was lookig for he took a deep breath and relaxed. Of all the check ins this one he had been the most worried about. Being enhanced raised a lot of questions. William walked to the first available doctor and gave them a smile his light blue eyes warm.
“Good afternoon, My name is William Cunningham, the new Counselor. I was told to check in here for my physical.”

As the newcomer had entered sickbay, one of the doctors immediately sensed the presence of the man and paused in his work at one of the stations. Tomas’ eyes remained down, but the lingering sense of frustration the man carried still lingered to the half-Deltans unique senses and let him track the man, every step as if he was watching him instead of feeling the emotion that drifted from him.

The experience of the emotions of others was, to Tomas, always a mixture of Deltan exhilaration and sensual exploration and yet, his human side revolted against the seeming invasion of others feelings, especially since Tomas only had the ability, in general, to sense another beings negative emotions, albeit extremely effectively. As the emotional footsteps grew closer Tomas set down his work PaDD, and after the man spoke, turned in greeting.

“Mr Cunningham, welcome to the Manhattan. I am Doctor Kuno” the short but oddly symmetrically attractive man acknowledged. “You’re in the right place certainly. Take a seat on this biobed here and let’s see whatever we can see. Do you have anything out of the ordinary to report before we begin, Counselor?” Tomas slipped a medical tricorder from the stand beside the bed and punched in the counselors name, waiting for the ships medical file from transfer to appear on the screen.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you doctor,” William said shaking the man’s hand before following the good looking doctor to the biobed. He sat down and tried not to fidget so the doctor could give his examination. William’s own features were considered handsome with a sharp cheekbones and full nicely shaped lips just the way he’d been genetically designed. William gave the doctor a considering look wanting to be honest but not wanting to be judge by the genetic tampering that happened to him before he was even born.
“Not besides I’ve never been sick a day in my life,” William admitted giving Doctor Kuno a small grin as he let the doctor perform his examination. “I suppose you should know I’m civilian but I’m sure it will come up in my file.” It was best to be honest about such things and he had found his way to serving on a ship after all so all things considered things were working out in his favor. His file would show his genetic modification and the extensive blood work that helped but his real parents away, and his regular stats but other than that he had never been treated for anything more serious than cuts and bruises.

“Never been sick a day in your life?” Tomas asked, with a slight grin, “Not even a cold?” he turned and punched the Counselors name into the computer, bringing up the mans file. Not being in Starfleet he didn’t expect the medical section to be very comprehensive, but paused slightly as the information began coming up on the screen, far more than what he would have thought there would be at first glance, even for a member of Starfleet.

As the information flicked by he frowned slightly, and then paused and went back over several sections, finally turning back to the Counselor. “Well then Mr Cunningham, I expect that explains why you don’t have a colored tunic on your shoulders, and why you’ve never been sick.” He took the medical tricorder’s scanner piece and flicked it on, beginning to run the device over Cunningham to collect the readings. “I worked for a number of years in a Hospital on Denobula” Tomas explained, “I’m rather familiar with genetic modification, most species use on unborn children it and skirt the edges of Federation Law with it, but I have to say your case is far more extensive than what is generally allowed, and I have never seen your name on the genetic experimentation list. I assume your case wasn’t exactly sanctioned?”

Doctor

William shook his head, “Not exactly sanctioned no, William replied looking down a bit. It always made him feel tainted somehow when he talked about what had been done to him. He had nightmares of waking up and having all his body parts cut open and only finding machine parts like an android. The word unnatural floated around whenever people spoke of him.
“My biological parents were what could be considered mad scientist and are paying for their indiscretion by serving life in prison,” William explained and gave the doctor a small smile in understanding how awkward it all was.

“A life sentence?” Tomas asked, raising his eyebrows slightly. “What age did that happen?”

He continued to run his scans over the man, checking the results against the previously recorded scans and then against what was considered base line normal for a human, noting where the genetic modification varied from the norm. “My mother is a senior surgeon and deals with genetic corrective surgery in that hospital on Denobula” Tomas told him, “and my father is an Engineer in Starfleet based on the Federation Station over Delta IV, I kind of followed in both of their footsteps really. I couldn’t imagine not having them around. Have you experienced any side effects or unexpected happenings from these modifications?”

William swallowed staying still so the doctor could contiue his examinations, “I was six when they were arrested. I was then adopted by two wonderful people who loved me and did their best by me so it wasn’t so bad,” he admitted and then he gave a small smile. ” I do sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had been raised by my real parents and how different I would be,” William added and he knew perhaps the answer to that question would likely should be terrifing if he were being honest. Somedays the thought did scare him a bit but mostly he was just curious. William didn’t like to talk about how traumatic being ripped from his real parents had been but it had turned his world upside down.
“I’m not allowed to see my real parents because the federation is afraid some kind of brainwashing will kick back into place. I’m not sure how true that is but I haven’t them in all this time,” William said and then he gave the doctor a smile at his question about the differences the modifications made.
“I have a rather high metabilism which causes me to need to eat regularly. I have a photographic memory and I learn rather quickly. Because of this I am fluent in many languages and arts. The tests the federation did also found I was rather strong, and have higher reflexes. They said more come about even later in life but that’s all I’ve noticed so far,” William replied adjusting a little so the doctor could reach his other side to examine.

Tomas moved around and continued his scans, over all, the slight Deltan was rather impressed at his physical state. The numbers were coming back healthy and In far better condition than would be expected from a man of his age and species, and Tomas had no doubt as to the validity of his claim to greater strength and reflexes. Unfortunately for most genetically engineered people that also came with a sense of superiority and self importance. Tomas wasn’t the counselor here but he wasn’t getting that impression from this man, and if the man had any negative type emotions he was trying to hide, Tomas would certainly have sensed them.

“The brainwashing is a real concern” he told the man, “unauthorized genetic modification or experimentation often comes with a means of exerting some kind of control over the subject. It makes sense if you are creating someone that is potentially faster, stronger and more intelligent than yourself, and is often implanted genetically and becomes almost Impossible to find.”

Tomas stepped back and snapped the sensor I to place, waiting for the last readings to show. “Your up to date with Starfleets required inoculations I take it? You might be an advanced genetic specimen but you still need the shots if they haven’t supplied them yet.”
