“Well, yes. That would seem to be something I should be aware of,” Riali mused, shaking her head. “Have a seat, Lieutenant Calloway.” Rising to her feet, she gestured for the younger woman to take one of the two chairs opposite of her. “The Captain warned me about you,” Riali’s voice maintained an air of harmless razz, as she approached the nearby replicator. “He said you might be keen to using some of our resources– care for a drink?”

Faye waved her hand dismissively. “Nah, I’m okay,” she said as she settled into a chair at Deandres’ desk. “So, the Captain’s warned you, eh? Well, I’m not sure how much he said, so do you need the full spiel or only a partial one?” There was no point in them covering what she already knew.

“Partial; no reason in wasting time on trivial information.” Deandres responded, situating herself in the chair. Smiling, she comically added, “After all, I am a grown scientist, capable of asking questions if there’s something I don’t understand.”

Calloway almost gave a quip but then reconsidered. She still didn’t know everyone well enough yet to know what she could get away with. The captain had proven someone she probably had some leeway with, but others were not necessarily the same. Instead she nodded. “The gist is that I am here as a data specialist. I’m responsible for the security of data transmission systems and our computer cores. I’ll be doing some experimental work to see if some of these processes can be improved to take into account the wormhole and that’s going to require not only changes to hardware but also software. Operations and Engineering are well aware that I’ll be a pest at times but I’ve also promised to keep everyone in the loop about any disruptions to normal operations.” There, that was straightforward enough.

“That seems fair enough,” Riali remarked. “I, personally, don’t mind having you around the labs. So long as you aren’t disrupting any of my scientist, you’re more than welcome.” Deandres was fairly laid back, she didn’t require much and preferred to keep things as calm as possible. They were huddled together behind the walls of a fairly small ship, when put into comparison by a colony or city, floating about in the delta quadrant.. surely friendliness was easier than being on each other’s backs. “Also, don’t be afraid to steal a scientist or two if you need any help. I’m sure most of them won’t bite.” Riali mused, clasping her hands atop the surface of the table.

“If you don’t mind me asking, out of curiosity, what exactly are your working on currently?”
