Gamma shift in Security was quiet. Security officers were patrolling, and NE Grant was checking the weapons locker to ensure that each was primed and ready. He got to the phase rifles and noticed a problem. Chew marks on the power packs. Each of them chewed down to the core of the weapon and they were drained. Grant scratched his head and touched his comm badge “Lt Kreeger, report to the weapons locker immediately please.” Grant continued to go through the weapons and found more and more damage as he progressed. All of them chewed and all were unusable at this time.GMM Mousie
Kreeger set the PADD down immediately and rose from his desk.
“On my way.”
A minute later the tall Security Chief stepped through the doors of the weapons locker.
His blue eyes swept across the room before settling on Grant.
“Report.”
As Grant indicated the damaged weapons, Kreeger stepped forward and picked up one of the phase rifles.
His expression hardened.
The power pack housing had been gnawed open. Not damaged by a tool. Not melted. Chewed.
He examined the edges carefully before moving to another rifle.
Then another.
Every weapon showed the same damage.
Kreeger’s jaw tightened.
“How many?”
He continued inspecting the racks as he spoke.
“Tell me exactly what you’ve found so far.”
He crouched beside one of the lower storage lockers and ran a finger across the floor beneath it.
Tiny fragments of casing material.
More bite marks.
His eyes narrowed.
“Seal this locker immediately.”
He stood.
“No one enters or leaves until I say otherwise.”
His gaze moved around the compartment.
“Computer, initiate internal sensor scan of this compartment. Search for biological residue, life-sign traces, unusual energy signatures, or unauthorized access within the last seventy-two hours.”
The computer chirped in acknowledgment.
Kreeger folded his arms.
“Someone—or something—got into a secured Starfleet weapons locker and chewed through multiple power packs.”
His voice was calm, but there was a dangerous edge beneath it.
“Until proven otherwise, we’re treating this as a security breach.”
He looked back at Grant.
“Start a complete inventory. Every phaser, every rifle, every power cell. I want a list of what’s damaged and what’s still operational.”
Then he tapped his combadge.
“Kreeger to Engineering. I need a technician in the Security weapons locker immediately. We have multiple-phase rifle power packs destroyed under unusual circumstances.”
He released the badge and looked once more at the ragged chew marks.
“Whatever did this,” he muttered, “had one hell of an appetite.”
