(snip)

A Bajoran face poked out of the doorway to the kitchen, recognizable to Calloway as the chef her friend Hammor had called ‘Harv’. “Heya, L-T. Another late night?” he asked, not noticing the other figure in the doorway to the mess.

Harv, Chef

Faye gave a lopsided grin. “Shhh! I thought we weren’t going to be keeping track,” she said half-seriously.

“The captain and I are doing the late meal thing. Got anything around, or is it too late now?” Calloway asked.

Harv looked past her and cursed softly. “Apologies, Captain.” he said as he stepped fully into the room from the kitchen. “Charlie Harv, sir. Mess Chef. A pleasure to meet you.” he continued as he wiped his hand off on a towel stuck in his apron, and then stuck it out to shake Cochrane’s.

Cochrane took his hand firmly and shook it. “A pleasure, Chef. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table… no pun intended.” he said with a genuine smile at meeting the man.

Looking at Calloway, he said “I’ve still got a bit of the stew left. And some bread, but it’s not fresh. Made it this morning. If that suits, I can bring you both out some.”

Harv, Chef

“Works for me if it suits the Lieutenant, here.” Cochrane replied with a look at Calloway.

Faye spread her hands slightly to the side. “Stew works me for me- I’m not fussy,” she said simply.

There wasn’t anyone else there, so they had their pick of seats, which also meant they got an unobstructed view out of any of the five viewports. She beelines for a table at one of them. “I hope you don’t mind. Not only it is a pretty good view, I like having a window to look out, regardless.” Never mind the fact that she worked in a windowless lab that amounted to not much more than a box. Albeit an exceptionally equipped box. But she could quell the small part of her that wanted to get claustrophobic because she was so intently focused on her work.
