She snorted before reaching deep into the conduit and attached the component to a section that she had prepped earlier. Faye reached out and grabbed a sealer and made the delicate motion that would fuse the part in. “Vulcan step-mom… I have had a fair bit of experience with Vulcans. We tend to get along. I think I like that I always know where I stand with them.”

“You never met my Mom, then.” he said with a chuckle. “For someone so logical, she has the ability to tap-dancing around a direct answer that would put a Ferengi to shame. I guess it helps that she is a writer. That and she puts up with my dad.” he said as he closely watched what she was doing.

Twirling the stylus-shaped sealer between her fingers, Faye sat back up and looked at him intently. “Cochrane… V’astur Cochrane. Didn’t she write that series of poetic essays, Meditations on the Fluidness of Being?”

Cochrane chuckled. “Yep, that’s the one. Among others. Let me know if you want a signed copy.” he added with a grin.

“Interesting stuff, I thought. Not something I normally would have gravitated towards, but it was interesting to read. My goodness though, I thought my mind was impossibly complicated…”

Cochrane laughed out loud at that. “You are not the first person to say that. And now you know why her shushing me goes a lot further. I tell you, it is both amazing and intimidating as hell to be in the same room with her when gets in the zone and starts going. I’ve watched entire faculty departments look like they were just hit with phasers on stun when she was finished talking.” and he chuckled again. After a moment he said “Not many people can weather her Mediations. I’m impressed, Lieutenant.”
