Shedda turned to look back at Kaia. “Oh now, I haven’t had one of those in years,” she grinned wickedly and looked at d’Aramis. “You’re welcome to stay Cmdr. But if you want to retreat to your office, we’ll understand,” she said with a grin.

“Are you kidding, Commander?”, Sebastian replied from the console he was working at. “Spending this time in my office all alone, when I can otherwise spend my time on the Bridge with a group of beautiful women? Even if one of them is only three foot tall and full of hair. I’ll take my chances on the bridge!”

“Her appearance is irrelevant to her abilities as an Engineer, Commander. And I would caution you against viewing my crew as potential playthings ” Cochrane said without any emotion.

Shedda didn’t even need to say anything, Cochrane already had.

Kaia gave Sebastian a bit of an odd look, but said nothing.

“Aye,” Able replied.

“No offense meant, Captain. I have no doubt that Lt. Kaia is an excellent engineer, nor was I questioning her ability, sire wouldn’t have gotten to where you are if you weren’t. My apologies, Lt. Kaia, if my comment offended you. I was simply stating that I think you are a beautiful being.”

“Excellent idea, Lieutenant.” Cochrane said as the turbolift doors opened. “You are acting XO in my absence. Congratulations.” and he stepped into the turbolift and the doors closed.

“Excellent,” Shedda rubbed her hands together. “Come have a seat Kaia.”

Kaia happily hopped up onto the XO’s chair and settled into it.

Ben followed the Captain toward the turbolift, stepping through as the doors whizzed open. Before the doors closed, he held them back with one hand. “By the way, Commander, I have just the thing for reducing your green complexion for any future away missions,” he said with a smile, knowing full well that he was stirring the pot between the XO and the CO.

Cochrane said “You didn’t hear that!” and playfully swatted the CMO’s hand away so the doors closed before the XO could reply.

“Yes I did!” Shedda called as the doors closed. She laughed as Cochrane disappeared with the rest of the away team.

He looked at Hudson and said “Ben, I’ve been stuck on this ship for almost a year without any time on-mission with an Away Team. If you mess this up for me, we are going to have a serious discussion about the trajectory of your career, Doctor.” and he chuckled.

Moving away from his station to join Cochrane and Hudson on the turbolift for away team duty Eilah spoke. “I have the threat assessment Captain. Their combat technology appears slightly more advanced than what their level of space exploration might suggest, though still barely able to scratch the Manhattan - plasma cannons, a few spatial torpedoes, nuclear weapons and power. They didn’t appear to have developed true defensive shields yet. Judging from their database they seem remarkably open-minded and welcoming of others, and in fact have had a unified world government for decades.”

“Alright,” Shedda said to the officer now at tactical. “Let’s keep in mind their weapons and the fact they have no real shielding. All low yield and only to warn them if necessary. We aren’t going to cause them any harm. Understood?”

“Aye, ma’am. Warning shots only,” NE Pitchford replied. “I take it we can keep our defensive systems on cold standby?”

“Yes, though hidden behind the moon we probably are alright. Call down and have two shuttles put on stand by just in case.”

“good luck, Captain,” d’Aramis replied as the lift doors slid closed.

Cochrane gave the new CIO a thumbs up as the doors slid closed. A heartbeat later, the doors opened again and Cochrane said “Commander, come with us. Your perspective will be a great asset with the Away Team, I think.”

“Alright then Lt. Sakai if you will continue to comb through their cultural information so we can feed it to the away team. Helm keep us hidden but within transporter range. If that becomes a problem let me know.” Shedda turned to Kaia, “You’re thoughts Lt.?”

Akane nodded and instinctively stood more to attention, “yes sir, I’ll let you know if I find anything of note,” she replied, keen to get started. She took a seat at a spare station and began to sift through the available information to find any cultural clues she could.
