Where is that Orion when I need him? Faye mused as she dragged a crate of power cabling across the small bridge space. She knew that technically she could request additional support staff to help her with some of this, but it was too much of a hassle for what amounted to a few minutes of tediously physical labour. That, and while she was better at asking for help, this was just stuff that she didn’t want to have to constantly answer questions with ‘I can’t tell you that’. She couldn’t wait till the bulk of her immediately pressing task was done and she could just go about her job on this ship like a normal person. Well, normal was relative- exceedingly relative where she was concerned- and it was probably more appropriate to use the word functioning.Grabbing one power cable, Faye carried it over to the communications station and crouched down. Dropping the cable on the floor, she opened a panel and surveyed what she was working with. “Computer, what is the time?”
=/\=The current time is 2208 hours.=/\=
“Oh good, another late night. 45 minutes and I’m calling it a night,” she said aloud with a sigh.
=/\=Please restate the request.=/\=
Calloway rolled her eyes and stood up. She unzipped her jacket and tossed it over the back of a chair. “Disregard, Computer,” she said as she moved to her took kit to grab her engineering tricorder.

Cochrane sat in his ready room when the desk interface blinked that the Auxiliary Bridge had been accessed. Furrowing his brow, he said =/\= Computer. Who is in the Auxiliary Bridge? =/\= =/\= Lieutenant Faye Calloway is in the Auxiliary Bridge. =/\= came the reply. Reaching up to tap his badge, Cochrane paused and then thought for a second. Making up his mind, he stood up and walked out of the office and into the lift.
Taking the lift to deck 7 and the Auxillary Bridge, Cochrane stood in the doorway as it opened and saw the boxes and cables strewn about. Seeing the Lieutenant crouched before the comms panel with her back to him mumbling to herself, Cochrane cleared his throat loudly and said “You are going to clean this place up before you leave… right, Lieutenant?” with a slight grin on his face.

Faye startled and banged her head on the edge of the console. “Imirrhlhhse!” she exclaimed out of sheer surprise. Rubbing her now throbbing head, she stood up properly, with a deep scowl on her face, quite ready to tear a strip out of the person that surprised her. Then she realized who it was. “Oh, it’s you,” she said casually, though her eyes widened and she shook her head slightly. “Sir.” It didn’t do to be rude. He had struck her as a person she could be a bit more casual with, but she certainly hadn’t been given permission to act that way with him.
Glancing around at her work, she waved dismissively. “Of course I’ll clean it up. Won’t even know I was here when I’m done.”

“Arhem usae.” Cochrane replied and then said “Of that I have no doubt.” and he looked around. “So other than the dent in my Communication console housing, any other changes you plan on making?” he asked with a grin.

Her eyes showed the smile long before it reached her mouth and Faye gestured with her head towards her work area, before running a hand over her teal coloured hair. It had faded and the rich brunette that was her natural shade was showing through. “I normally greatly dislike bashing my head on things to get work done, but when it works,” she said with mock seriousness. “Come on over and I’ll show you what I’m up to.” She didn’t have to. In reality, all Calloway had to do was say that it was classified and that likely would have been the end of the conversation. But there wasn’t anything going on here that she couldn’t show him. Others couldn’t know or didn’t need to unless absolutely necessary, but he was the captain and she could let him in on at least some of it.
Cochrane nodded once and then took off his jacket as Calloway had, and then layed himself on the deck and slid under the console so he could see. Apparently, the new CO wasn’t afraid of getting dirty when necessary.
Grabbing her tricorder, she crouched down and made room for him so he could see the network of chips and relays that were a part of the communications terminal above. “So, I know it’s weird for me to be here, but this is actually a sensitive area most people don’t think of. And my job is this weird mix of science, engineering and security. It’s my job to think laterally and sometimes diagonally to where potential threats may exist in the data framework, and…” She reached in and around the side to the place she had been looking at right before he entered. She pulled out a chip and showed him. “One little chip encoded with anything unusual could create some interesting side effects.” She offered it to him.
Cochrane took the chip and examined it from multiple angles it looked like any of the billions that were part of starships anywhere in the galaxy.
“That one is actually fine, but what I’m doing is adding a layer or protection throughout the ship in key area.” Faye scrunched her face slightly as she searched for the right words. “Think of it like a doctor inoculating the crew against a series of illnesses. That’s sort of what I’m doing. But some processes require more in depth work and modifications than others. This is a simple one, but there’s no good time to really do it, so I chose when most people wouldn’t really be about.” That explained why she was still working at this hour, and had set part of her uniform to the side, but she was curious what drew him here so late.

Cochrane paused for a moment and then said “So instead of giving the patient a shot and letting the immunization work it’s way through their system, you are hard wiring nodes into the body that will react whenever and wherever the ‘bug’ might make it’s appearance?” he asked.
