Able was about to do the one thing he dreaded, going to Sick Bay. He knew he needed to get his clearance from medical to continue doing his engineering duties on the ship and tried to push it off as long as he could. The time had come, he needed to just walk in and get it done.

Able walked up to the door and watched it open, he knew every piece of how the door worked and could take it apart and put it back together again but for some reason he couldn’t move his foot to enter. Something moved behind him and finally he walked into Sick Bay and approached one of the Medical Officers and said, “My name is Ensign Able Nightroad and I need an onboarding examination.”

One of the nurses looked at the duty roster to see who was available for walk-in appointments.

Aerin was a little further back in Sickbay checking inventories when the sound of voices near the entrance caught her attention. She put down her PADD and made her way toward the entrance. In appearance she was somewhat fey looking, slender with long dark hair, fair skin and pale grey eyes. The slight point to her ears indicated at least some Vulcan in her lineage, but the open expressiveness of her facial features seemed to contradict it. In truth one might think she looked more elvish than Vulcan if that were possible…

The Nurse looked up at her approach, “There you are dear, the Ensign is here for an onboard medical, I believe you are taking walk-ins right now?”

Aerin responded with a smile, “That would be me,” She nodded at the Ensign and gestured toward a nearby biobed, “Right this way Ensign.”

Able looked at Aerin in awe and followed her. While walking he squeaked, “Nice to meet you Ma’am” Able wanted to hide in a corner with the way he had just responded.

Nightroad, Engineer

The corner of Aerin’s mouth quirked upward at the Ensign’s response, one she was, in fact, quite used to.

“Nice to meet you as well Ensign,” She replied with a smile while leading him to the nearest biobed. “Any past medical history I should be aware of?”

Able waked up and sat on the biobed and replied, “No Ma’am, I don’t believe I have any issues.” Able wanted to be out of Sick Bay as fast as possible but something in his mind was telling him to take his time.

Nightroad, Engineering

“Very well then,” Aerin replied with a smile as she lifted her Medical Tricorder to complete the scan. “May I?” She paused, waiting for Able to indicate consent before starting.

“Aye”, Able said nervously. He knew nothing was going to happen during the exam but he was still nervous for some reason.

Aerin completed the scan quickly hoping to alleviate some of the Ensign’s nerves. It was not hard to tell he was uncomfortable in his current surroundings.

“It would appear that you are in excellent health Ensign Nightroad,” She said with a kind smile, “Though you do appear to be slightly dehydrated at the moment. Don’t forget to take a break once in awhile. You need to take as good care of yourself as you do our fine ship.”

“Th-th-thank you Ma’am.” Able replied shyly. “I wa-will remember that” hopped off the biobed and headed towards the door

Aerin sighed, smiled, and shook her head as she watched the young man practically dash for the exit to Sickbay. She then logged his onboarding physical as ‘complete - no concerns’ and went back to her previous task of checking inventories…
