With the department Head check in complete, Scott knew there were a few more things to check off on his list, the counseling checkup, the medical checkup, getting his lab station set in a particular order, etc. He started his walk towards sickbay, at an almost uncannily accurate 1.42 meters per second, as he carried his PaDD in his left hand and his posture and positioning adequate for his age. He blended in with everyone else in the hallway almost invisibly so; to the point that if a camera were panning on two individuals walking and talking, Scott would be an indistinguishable extra in the background. He entered Sickbay shortly and waited to be assigned a bio-bed for his assessment and waited patiently.

Over the next five minutes, a few nurses scurried around sickbay, clearing away various items of medical equipment. It was only when one of them almost tripped over the science officer’s feet (it must have been the beige socks) that they realised he was there.
“Oh, hello there… err… Lieutenant…?” she paused, waiting for his response.

He turned his head to the Ensign and gave an expression similar to if one had been told that the weather was a touch cloudy yesterday, as he said, “Smith. Lieutenant Scott Smith. Here for my on boarding physical. Would you like my Medical records or shall I hold on to them?” He asked, his tone dismissive of any passion, similar to that of a damp towel hung to dry. He blinked slowly, noticeably so as he waited for a reply from the hitherto scurrying nurse.

“We can take them,” a third voice resonated across the sickbay. Ben walked across to the pair, and indicated to the Ensign that they could resume their duties. “Lieutenant Smith, I presume?” Ben asked, looking at the science officer.

Chief Medical OfficerScott nodded slowly as he swallowed a little and handed over the PaDD and said blandly, “Yes sir, Lieutenant Scott Smith at your service.” He took a slow breath in and then back out as he blinked slowly.

“Please, no ‘sir”, Ben said. He didn’t really like the use of it, especially from those of the same rank. But at the same time, he understood the desire of some crew members to disassociated the medical staff when seeing them for medical matters, compared to more social situations. “If you would like to keep it formal, I’m happy with ‘doctor’”.
He gestured towards one of the biobeds. “Please, take a seat.”
