Instead, the landscape was covered with lush greenery with no sign of the monument in sight. Trees hundreds of feet high blocked the bright sun making the area around them appear like it was the early hours of a summer night. Vines, palm fronds, and exotic flowers life snaked over the ground and up the trunks and stem of other plants. The air held the earthy scent of dirt and rotting vegetation. Sounds of insects and birds replaced the dull white noise of the ocean they had heard before finding themselves here. Of in the distance the rustle of large animals could be heard or maybe it was small animals skittering just under the moss and leaf-strewn floor of the jungle the seemed to be in the middle of. The group would find none of them permanently injured. Just varying degrees of slight disorientation. : : : : : : : : : : Celina sat up and instantly went for her weapon which was not there. Why should it be? They were in a holodeck. “Jasmine this is the stupidest program ever. If I wanted to be shocked and blinded I would have gone to engineering during a warp core test,” Celina stood up brushing the loose dirt from her pants and legs. “Jack,” she yelled out trying to get her bearing straight and not seeing him. : : : : : : : : : : Jasmine sat up putting a hand to her forehead. Her head felt like it was filled with cotton. “What are you mumbling about,” she said trying not to sound rude. As she opened her eyes and looked Celina, Jasmine’s face fell. “Where the hell are we,” she said slowly taking in the lush green instead of the sandy red she was expecting. : : : : : : : : : : Lt. Celina Rodriguez, CTO : : : : : : : : A few feet ahead, Jack came back hearing Celina. “Good, you are awake.” he said, holding a branch in hand. It was clear he had been exploring. “I made sure you were okay, you were fine but I figured it would be best to find out where we are. How are you two feeling?” Jack asked the pair, coming to Jasmine first helping her up before Celina, who he seemed to take extra effort for her. : : : : : : : : Creed, XO : : : : : : ” I am fine,” Jasmine said brushing her palms on her pants. “How is everyone else,” she looked around. “Max…Max,” Jasmine said scanning the area. Suddenly she saw his body several feet to her right. “Max…Max,” Jasmine said crawling over to him. : : : : : : Lt. Jasmine Wynter CMO : : : : : : OCC: If you want to see exactly where you are, then click this link. https://imgur.com/IOfHNRn : : : : The warmth and light came back to Max in a rush as he opened his eyes, and for a moment the world spun around a central point as he looked up through what seemed to be a canopy of trees, the soft feeling of moss and vegetation under him and the bulk of his backpack and the warm sweet smell of forest and jungle filled his lungs. Squinting his eyes above the glare, he struggled to make sense of things until he heard his name and the face of an angel appeared above him, the spinning world slowing to a halt as he looked up and focused on the face of the only angel that mattered to him, his wife, the light framing her face and the canopy of palm trees behind her giving him the image of wings through his haze. : : : : Smiling softly, he reached his hand up to her and breathed in deeply as the rest of his senses slowly returned, not only getting forest, but Jasmines scent close to him. “Jaz, your here” he said softly, not looking away from her, “I told you we would be ok?” : : : : Lt Cmdr Wynter : : CE : : “I think he has a head injury,” Jasmine said sound far more professional than her husband. “How many fingers am I holding up,” she said raising two fingers and pulling a penlight out of her pocket. While security was rarely without a weapon, Jasmine was never without her penlight because unlike security, the crew was always hurting themselves. Too many times to count, Jasmine had to treat a bump on the head as someone worked on a bulkhead or a twisted ankle in the gym on the fly. : : “Anyone else hurt? Sheriye, Mike, Logan,” Jasmine began to triage the group. “Anybody else hit their head like Max,” she asked. : : “Okay, what is the date,” Jasmine asked Max again starting to run through the head injury checklist. : : Lt. Jasmine Wynter, CMO : With a rustle of leaves and shrubbery near by Mike could be heard groaning and he crawled out from under some overgrowth. “I’m good, I’m good … what the heck was that? Definitely the weirdest program I’ve been in .. are the safety’s even on?” He stood up once he was out from under the greenery and dusted his pants off. His white T-shirt wasn’t so white anymore, as he tried dusting that off as well as he could. He glanced around taking a count of everyone and looking around finally taking in the full view of the jungle. “Are we all here ..?” : Ensign Mike Gareth (Security)The Captain seemed to have come out of this with the least damage to person or pride. He watched the others collect themselves from the tree branch he had somehow found himself sitting upon. He was a good ten feet in the air, but seemed unfazed by it as his legs dangled, and sandaled feet swung. “It appears that we are all here?” he answered the query of the security officer, before he turned and lowered himself towards the ground. Dropping the last four or so feet, to land in a crouch then rise to standing.
Captain Balian Ibn Barazan
“Welcome Tarzan. Me Celina. That Jack. We are your friends,” she said in broken sentences trying not to laugh. How the Captain made it in the tree when the rest of them were haphazardly scattered like fruit from a tree she would never know. The image however of his muscle toned arms and ease at which he dismounted from a fall that could easily have broken someone else’s leg could not be ignored. From this point forward to Celina, his secret nickname would be Tarzan and the smallest part of her might just imagine she was Jane occasionally when Creed was focused on those damn Magic cards or pulling a double duty shift.
“Are we missing anyone?” Jack said as he looked around to find out where they might be. “I think this is all, but why did it do this?” he asked as he looked over at Celina. “Did you make a special program again? I told you not to tamper with the physics like last time.”
Creed, XO
“Ummmm no,” she snapped out of her daze. “This is not my program. It’s hers,” Celina poked an accusing finger at Jasmine.
“No it is Carisi’s,” Jasmine snapped her attention off her husband and onto her friend. “I would never suggest we enter a holodeck program that was trying to kill you.” Jasmine got stiff as she let her eyes drift back to Max’s. “I mean I really did intend to only ski. I never planned the AT AT’s or Ion cannons as we came down the hill. I mean it was a just a thing. It was not like I planned it. Just like I didn’t plan this,” she looked at Max. So far both programs she had selected had tried to kill the man she had just married. “You believe me right Max?’
Lying on the grass, sun streaming through the canopy and being comfortable except for the bulky pack slightly propping him off the ground, Max looked up at Jasmine and blinked a few times in slight confusion as he cleared his thoughts of the fog of regaining consciousness. “Jaz whats going on?” he said, sitting up and looking around, realizing they weren’t in Kansas anymore.
“Well if I knew I would be telling you,” Jasmine snapped a bit more frustrated than was necessary. “I’m sorry guys. I think we should just pick something less unexpected,” she suggested reaching down to help her husband get up. “Maybe we can add a few elements to this like a five star hotel or something.”
“Always subtract in situations like this. Never add,” Celina said to her friend. =/\=Computer end program,=/\= she requested brushing off her shirt. When no voice promptly replied to her query, Celina tried again. =/\=Computer end program,=/\=. The second request was met with the same response as the first. The sound of invisible insects buzzing, birds cawing in the distance, and the faint sound of a rhythmic beating that could barely be heard unless everyone was silent.
Lt. Celina Rodriguez CTO
“The program didn’t respond to being shut down” he observed, then pushed himself to his feet, holding out his hand to Jasmine to join him. “Computer, Exit” he said, and waited for the door to appear.
Lt Cmdr Wynter
CEBalian shook his head, “Negative Guns, Winning is the only option” Then the Captain squatted down and refastened his sandals tighter. “There were no Jungles on Mars, this program therefore is designed as some sort of puzzle. Do you owe this Carisi, wait like Denver Iron Heart, tongue can cut Battle Hull Carisi, the admiral?” The Captain asked.
Captain Balian Ibn Barazan
Jasmine let out a large laugh. “Are you sure you are not talking about Sara his wife?” Waving him off with a grin she continued. “Paris did say when she gave it to me that I would never look at a holodeck program the same again. So you think this is like one of those locked room type games,” she asked Balian.
“Well every lock has a key. We just find the key right to turn it off?” Jasmine asked.
Lt. Jasmine Wynter, CMO
He didn’t quite get the Captain’s reference, though he was never one for plays or movies since they didn’t have many things like that growing up in the colony he lived at. He remained silent and kept watch on the surroundings since it was clear that something was definitely wrong with this program. Who knows what dangers they could face or if the safeties were even on. He spotted a nicely sized branch one of the nearby trees and jumped up, grabbing it and hanging, pulling himself up a bit and jerking downwards with his whole body until the branch broke off. It wasn’t too thick of a branch so he used his foot to break it to length around a good seven feet or so. He sat listening to the others and the environment, watching using a rock in between his feet to round off one of the ends that he broke off while sharpening the other. He felt naked without a weapon in an unknown situation, it paid to have anything to help in case it needed it. Even if it was just to feel more secure. Your state of mind was more than half the battle when it came down to it.
Ensign Mike Gareth (Security)
“Well, if we can’t turn it off… maybe we have to just finish it. So how does this story finish?” Jack said, curious as to what the end goal of all of this even was. “If we know how to get to the end we can finish this off here and now.”
