Ben jumped at the voice of Eilah, having not heard him approach. “Blimey,” he started, catching is breath slightly, “well, at least we know you’re good at sneaking up on people.” he said with a smile.

Eilah chuckled. “Always be at the ready.”

“That said, if you do get injured when an EPS conduit explodes during battle, I think you would rather I had some rudimentary facilities to patch you up enough to live through to when we get back to the saucer-section.” he said. “Despite the concept of the ‘golden hour’ being over 400 years old, it’s still holds true.”

“Eh, isn’t a first aid kit enough? Or is your skill not that good?” Eilah teased lightly. He knew Ben was probably right, but what was some light banter between hopefully-friends? “Or perhaps you doubt my ability to dodge exploding… whatever conduits?” He said and grinned.

Ben chuckled slightly, before looking back at Eilah with a smile. He felt strangely comfortable taking this ribbing, despite barely knowing Eilah. Perhaps the Chief of Security was actually a mindreader after all.

“Touché!” he replied, with a smile. “And if your dodging ability is as sharp as your wit, then I think you’ll be safe.” he continued, with a grin. “Although, I would rather have more at my disposal than some tubigrip, a hypospray, and my awesome skills should anything happen.”

“Talk to the commander. Might be able to help you set up a medi-closet or something.” Eilah said with a shrug. “I haven’t been on board that long but as Security you find all the nooks and crannies good for things like that.” He picked up an underlying genuine concern about this, that led him to giving a serious answer. But he did enjoy the back and forth with Ben. “Tubigrip is useful stuff. Does a lot of things.”

“Oh don’t worry, I already have a few spaces I’ve identified - including one of these science bays, but that might be pushing it. You didn’t think I was down here for the benefit of my own health?” he said with a grin.

“But thanks,” he said, putting away the PaDD he had been making notes on, “I do tend to get passionate about these things.”

“I’d worry for the crew if you didn’t. I can’t prevent every injury.” Eilah replied with a nod. “I’ll get you a head start though, Science won’t give up their space. I’d like to see you ask, though.”

“So modest,” Ben said, taking this opportunity to banter Eilah. “And there was me hoping you would be my guardian angel.” he pretended to brush away a false tear.

“I never said I couldn’t prevent every injury to you. I said I couldn’t prevent every injury to everyone. I’d make a fantastic guardian angel, I think.” Eilah shot back with a grin. In fact, that was how he’d spent his childhood, protecting his sister.

“Oh well, in that case, maybe I should buy my guardian angel a drink,” he said, a little bit more coyly than he had previously been. He could tell that Eilah would be good fun to be around, but Ben started to wonder if he felt there was a little bit more to it than that. He chuckled to himself, as he stopped his mind from going off on a tangent; ‘well, at least I seem to have found a friend’ he thought to himself.
