<SNIP>

The comms activated. =/\= Cochrane to Away Team and Medical. Be on the lookout for a mechanical key of some kind. Could be stored on board the ship or perhaps on our deceased friend in the morgue. If it is on their person, check for a necklace or hidden pockets in their clothes. If it’s on the ship, I would suggest looking in personal quarters or in the cockpit. Sentient beings who keep important things secured behind mechanical locks, at least most species anyway, tend to keep the key to such locks close to them or within easy retrieval. I’d prefer not to cut open this chest if at all possible. =/\=

Cochrane, CO

OOC: Bump ..

=^= Medical here - acknowledged Captain, we’ll check over our friend down here =^= replied Ben, tapping a few commands into his console.

“Ensign Fitzgerald, if you would do the honours of checking for any foreign objects,” he asked, pointing toward the dusty corpse.

Specifically speaking there was nothing on his body in the scan .. or in his body in the scan .. this discounting personal effects.

=^= Sickbay to Bridge and Away Team. No luck with finding the key on the individual. =^=

Ben pondered for a moment, before running his hands over the console. He suddenly had a hunch; one of those hunches that seldom comes to a character, especially in the form of an email from a certain Game Master.

=^= Computer, did you scan all contents of the containment field, or just the corpse. =^=

=^= Negative. =^=

Ben sighed. “I give you an either or, and you give me a ‘no’”, he grumbled. He assumed that the computer meant it had just scanned the corpse, and so had it scan all of the ancillary items that the individual had been wearing. At first, nothing out of the ordinary appeared, but then Ben noticed a strange cavity that was in the heel of one boot, and not the other.

Grabbing a pair of surgical gloves and a mask, he walked over to the containment field as he put them on. The gloves snapped on to his wrists as he pulled them tight. Taking a laser scalpel to the laces, he loosened the offending boot, and gave it a gentle tug. Apparently he didn’t need to worry about the laces, as the boot came away from the corpse with relative ease; along with the individuals foot.

“Sorry,” Ben mumbled, as he looked at the heel. He tried to prise it apart, but with no luck. It was then that he noticed a small slide button on the side of the heel. As he slid it across, a small key popped out and fell on the floor.

=^= Sickbay to Bridge and Away Team. Cancel my last, I have one key that I am beaming over to you. =^=. After he beamed the key across to the away team, he looked at the mess that littered autopsy area, where the individual had lost an arm and a leg. He put them back on the table next to the corpse.

“There you go ol’ chap.’
