It was at that point that Anna entered the autopsy room, staying just clear of the forcefield. “I was on the Bridge dealing with someone’s minor injury when I heard there was a body being beamed to Sickbay, sir. Are you planning to do just scans, or a full physical autopsy? In the latter case, permission to observe? It’s been a while.”
~ Doctor Anna Fitzgerald
Ben flashed a quick grin at the Doctor. “Well, I was just going to do some preliminary scans, however I am curious as to why this human has ended up out here, so perhaps a full physical autopsy might yield something.” he said, as he picked up a laser scalpel from the medical tray nearby.
“And rather than observe, why don’t you have a go? I assume you remember your autopsy training from medical school?” he asked, keen for the Doctor to use this as an opportunity to get some experience, rather than just watch.

Chief Medical OfficerShe smiled. “I’m glad you asked, sir. I think I will. But like I said: it’s been a while, so, please, do stick around.”
Not that Anna didn’t remember Stevie. That’s what she’d nicknamed ‘her’ corpse during the lab portion of human anatomy and physiology. Poor sod had died from a phaser fight on a malfunctioning holodeck, of all places. Or at least, that’s the story she and her lab partners had told themselves for a laugh or two, during what were otherwise rather grim proceedings, in which they literally cut up a human body into small pieces of meat for their own education. They didn’t actually know anything about the man, other than what the general condition of and damage to his body revealed. So in their minds, he became a Starfleet Officer who hadn’t actually set foot on a planet in quite a while, but who liked to fire weapons on the Holodeck, and got unlucky one day.
She grabbed a surgical gown, pulled it on, and then, on the wall panel, adjusted the forcefield so it would be penetrable for no more than 30 seconds. She stepped through, heard it re-engage behind her, scanned the room, located the instrument tray, and grabbed a laser scalpel. Then she turned to the CMO.
“Standard Y incision, I assume? Is there anything specific you want me to be on the lookout for?”
~ Doctor Anna Fitzgerald
“Yes, I think that’s a good start as any.” Ben said with a smile. “I am curious to see what we find out about him. We know that he was killed, probably by explosive decompression, but it would be good to know a bit more about his medical history.” he mused, more to himself than anyone else.
“Do you need any help with starting off, or do you think you’ve got it?” he asked the Doctor, impressed that she had got straight on with it. It was always markably different opening a corpse rather than a living person who needed medical intervention.
