Devin nodded her head softly, “Well I am smaller than most maybe I can help a little when I am not on patrol? I don’t mind learning how to fix things but if nothing else just tell me what tool you want and I’ll hand it over with a smile.” Devin said with a cheeky grin. She was not going to ask how often Kaia had gotten stuck. She knew all about matters of pride like that. (Though it usually involved yarn or terrier dogs in her case) not that she was mentioning that out loud.

Kaia evaluated the idea and shook her head, although the smile showed she was amused. “I get into places even I have trouble fitting. You’re smaller than most humans, but you’re still too big to make it worth the effort. Even so, I appreciate the offer. Maybe there are other things we could do together? I’d love to have another friend out here.”

“Fair enough, do you like any sports or something?” Devin asked a she sipped her hot chocolate. She figured there must be some common things they might enjoy. Even if she thought about the slight mischief she’d already witnessed from the flicking of washer to the the loud speaker moments ago.

“Not a lot of competitive sports I can participate in because of the, uh,… physical differences, but I’m quite fond of rock-climbing and other vertical challenges. I do some running, but less of that. I enjoy jigsaw puzzles?” Kaia shrugged. She spent a lot of her free time climbing around in the walls just for fun, giving herself different challenging routes to complete in as short a time as possible. “I like solving things. Finding the best way to repair an engine, etcetera etcetera.”

Devin nodded, “I like parkour, swimming and the like, I have tried rock climbing I haven’t decided how I feel about it for certain yet. Puzzles are always fun to solve. Have you ever tried Kal-toh?” she asked softly as she took another sip from her hot chocolate.

Kaia tilted her head in thought, considering the question. “I’m not sure that I have tried Kal-toh. I’d love to learn it! 3D chess?”

Devin grinned, “I’d love to show you how to play but my Kal-toh set is in my duffel at the moment but I do know how to play 3D Chess if you’d rather do that for now?” she said as she finished her hot chocolate, “Want a refill or something else?” she offered as she stood up.

Kaia considered her empty mug. “Ehhh… I probably shouldn’t.” She gave Devin a slight grin. “That Dairy Milk stuff is addictive.” The tip of Kaia’s tail flicked. “There’s a Game room if you want to relocate there. Lots of games and tables, works on a bit of a library system. Might even be a Kal-toh set we can use.”

Devin nodded her head softly, “Yes it is, I honestly feel sorry for the folks that are lactose intolerant.” she said softly, “Sure I’ll drop off our cups and you can lead the way.” Devin returned their cups to the lounge manager and turned back to Kaia with a cheeky grin, “Ready when you are?”

Kaia slipped off the chair and led Devin out of the Lounge and through the halls in the most efficient path from the lounge to the recreation room. It wasn’t as big as it might have been on a larger ship, but there was still a relatively diverse selection of instruments and table games. Chess, Settlers of Catan, Kadis-kot, and even two games Kaia had added from her culture - a chess-like game with a board that resembled a forest, with spaces being on branches on the trees, and a children’s game about herding the very dumb Lus’lus bird. The closer to the end of the game you got, the harder it was to progress. It was very funny to watch other people cry out in despair as an unlucky rice roll erased all their efforts. They reached the Games room and Kaia looked around for the Kal-toh game Devin had mentioned. “Hey, what culture is Kal-toh from?”

“Kal-toh is Vulcan, I like it for the numerous outcomes it can have based on who you are playing with.” she said with a cheeky grin. Devin didn’t play to win unless she was certain of her opponent. If they were both going all out then she played her best if they were just having fun then she just enjoyed the game and the companionship.

Kaia nodded and thoughtfully glanced around the room. There were a few people in the rec room, playing games. Other boxes and containers were mostly gathered on shelves, but not all of them were. She looked back to her new friend with a defeated sigh. “I don’t even know what I’m looking for. Can you see if you can find it?”

Devin nodded with a smile, “No problem, it’s usually stored in a cloth bag that acts as the playing mat that the kal-toh pieces hover over. I think there’s some magnetic properties to it but I have never examined it to find out for sure I like the ‘mystery’ of it as much as anything else.” she found the mentioned bag in a pleasant crimson hue and after checking the contents to be sure she had picked up the right thing she walked over the to table and unfolded the bag from around the pieces. They immediately ‘hovered’ over the now flat bad in a jumble of pieces. “You can take a piece from anywhere and try and place it how you wish. The idea in the end it to have all the pieces align in a harmonious sphere but it doesn’t always work out.”

Kaia grabbed a small box from the side of the room and carried it over to the table where Devin set up the Vulcan game, put the box on her chair, then tapped a small button on the side. The box expanded into a seat extension which was sized for Kaia’s body and included a few handholds for Kaia to clamber up onto it. She did so, and was seated at a height that would allow her to reach the top of the table without too much fuss. “Okay, let’s try this out. I assume we take turns?”

Devin nodded, “I am offering the first move to you but if you want me to go first instead that’s fine.” she got settled in her seat as she waited for what Kaia would do or if she showed that she wanted Devin to start she would do so.

Kaia shrugged, grabbed one of the pieces, and placed it in a slightly different configuration elsewhere on the pile. “Is there a strategy for this?”

“If you have ever played jenga it is sort of like that but the main idea is to get the pieces to form a perfect circle but depending on how you place your piece or I place mine it will change the shape to other things.” Devin said softly as she took a piece from near the bottom and placed it on the starboard side. The pieces shifted and spun before it looked like a spikey star topper for a holiday tree. Devin laughed softly. “Well that did not work.”
