“Oh! This stupid computer!” Bezre raised their fists, as though to smack the haptic console but refrained. Serras glanced up from his PaDD. He rested in comfortable spot on the lounge, dressed down to his casual clothes. Shoes off. Awful. Bezre had to ignore it for now, there were more important matters. “This computer refuses to answer my completely valid inquiries! I have every right to know the technological specs and defensive capabilities of this vessel. What if there is an emergency? I must be informed on the limits and capabilities of this ship.”

Though they were not currently enlisted within Starfleet, previous Myrh hosts were! Harian, an exceptional over-achiever, served both Trill and the Federation in homeworld and Starfleet vessels. He flew Starfleet fighter ships and had high security clearances within both the Trill Military and Starfleet. “This is inexcusable,” Bezre continued. They paced about the room while Serras watched with an impassive expression. “I must speak with the head of security right away. Serras, review my schedule for the next day would you? And read those letters from the Andorian ambassador and give me your assessment of the situation.” Bezre dipped into their room to fetch their protective shawl before braving the bright hallways of the Manhattan.

“Computer, tell me where Lieutenant Commander Fayth is?” The computer complied with this request and Bezre bee-lined to the closest turbo lift. They chewed on their lip and played with the frayed edges of their veil, deep in thought. There was simply too much to cover within one conversation. They will have to narrow down their inquiries from highest to least priority. The lift beeped as it arrived at the security deck. Bezre stepped off and made their way down the hallway at a quick pace. First they needed to know the capabilities of the crew and their reaction time in emergencies. Did the ship have proper security measures and what plans were in place for hostile boarders. Yes, that should be a good start for the time being.

Eilah was in his office, completing the paperwork side of his job. Organizing the next week’s patrols, that sort of thing. He let the door open upon Bezre’s approach. His empathy and telepathy were quite strong and fine tuned and he could tell when someone was approaching. Without looking up, he said, “What can I help you with?”

Bezre stepped in, immediately taking a seat across from the COS desk and launched into their inquiry, “Yes, I have several questions about the security and defensive capabilities of the ship. The ship computer is unable to answer my questions to my satisfaction.” They seemed very put-off by this, their annoyance clear in both their thoughts, mood and expression. Underneath however, lurked a deep, dark river of anxiety.

“You’re not Starfleet. There are questions I will be unable to answer. However, I will do my best to assure you there is nothing to be concerned about.” Eilah looked up at them and smiled. “So, what are your questions?”

“That is correct,” Bezre said, thrown off momentarily by the statement. Bezre was a civilian and never enlisted with any kind of military. A change of pace from Myrh’s previous two hosts who lived and breathed military service. “I know the procedures and policies, I have served in Starfleet previously, Lieutenant Commander.” They sat up straighter, “The Manhattan is a very impressive ship but ships this large don’t always have the best maneuverability and when you can’t move quickly you compensate in other areas such as shielding or offensive weapons. What can you tell me of these systems?” Something to give them an idea of how the ship would handle in a fire fight against another vessel. Myrh missed the fighter ships they used to fly.
