“Water is nice, it is a vital resource that sustains much of life through out the galaxy as we know it. Though I am not so use to a pond or pooling of water such as this. Much of my home is covered in deserts and is hot. So it isn’t all that natural for water to be like this on the planet Vulcan. I do like water yes, but I don’t think I have the same affinity for it as you do Koro.” He explained softly and gently put his hand on top of the boy’s head, gently patting it. “Tell me, if you could grow anything in the gardens, what would it be?” He asked as he raised an eyebrow at the boy, curious of his answer.

His brown eyes lit up. “I like the flowers. The glass garden has really pretty ones, but over there”-he pointed towards the bow-side of the garden where there was a meandering path and some of the more formal gardens-“are nice ones as well. They smell nice.”

Sair smiled. “There’s a rose garden over there.”
“What are deserts?” Koro asked.
Sair grinned at Sovrk. She could answer her son, but she liked having others also be a part of his education and he seemed to want to learn things from everyone. He was very trusting that way and if she were honest, she envied that.

Sorvk looked throughtful then took a knee beside Koro. “Well a desert is a place where sand coveres the ground. Usually it is very hot during the day, and very cold of the night. It seems like it can be inhospitable to life, however it often teems with life that goes unseen.” He explained softly.

“Really?” Koro said and then turned to his mother. “Does Kobliad have deserts?”

Sair nodded. “Not quite like Sovrk described but we do. The largest one is not too far from Sonrey and it’s called a rain shadow desert because a mountain range stops the wet weather from the other side from getting over. So it’s very, very dry.” She looked to the Sovrk. “Sonrey is our planetary capital and it’s located in a temperate rainforest.”

Sovrk nodded. “I see, well that sounds about right for most deserts.” He stood up and placed a hand on his chin. “Maybe we may discover some new flora or megaflora… and if we do and it’s safe I will make sure we plant some of it in one of the gardens.” He said and looked around. “It truly is a large garden for a starship, if it were not for organic replication.... it may be enough that this garden of this size would have been the standard on ships as a means of food production… though I can only imagine it would have to be sealed off into different sections for climates conditions, soil types… and the like.” He said musing. “As it is this is a place that I could see one consider it to be a relaxing place. Then again it wasn’t so long that I touched grass for the first time.” He said almost as a side thought before waving his hand. “No matter.”

“Grass feels good on my bare feet!” Koro said.

Sorvk shakes his head. “That is something that I don’t think I will be trying, mine are somewhat sensitive.” He said in his normal tone.

“It’s a lovely space and I met the woman who designed it briefly. She said it was inspired in part by the communal gardens on the colony she was born on. Come, let’s show you around,” Sair said moving towards the main walkway that circled the space. They would pass by the main doors as they moved counter-clockwise.

Sorvk nodded and raised an eyebrow. “Really now? Interesting. Sure that sounds good.” He said as he started following after them.

Sair gaze at Sovrk and broke into a smirk. “Sovrk, have you ever climbed a tree?”

Salek raised an eyebow and shook his head. “No I can’t say that I have.”

Sair grinned. “Don’t mind me as I conjure an evil but potentially interesting plan. But we’ll save that for another day. For now, we can enjoy the smaller trees here, though Koro can climb them with some help,” she said, meandering down the large path that took them by the orchard on their right, and the rose garden on the left that had a hidden loop trail off past the arbour with a quiet bench tucked in the corner.

Sovrk raised his eyebrow at the comment but otherwise he did not say anything further. He followed after them as his gaze wandered about the nature scenery around them. He gave a small nod to the orchard. “I remember there being mentions of a orchard of apple trees in one of the Earth books I had read one time for a course of Earth Culture studdies. I don’t recall to much of it… just the grove of trees here kind of reminded me of it.” He said making polite smalltalk, it seemed a bit awkward, as he himself deffinatly was not use to doing so.

“There’s apparently a few different types of fruits grown in the orchard, and if I recall, they are pollinated by hand given there are no insects here to do so,” Said said.

“I miss the forests. I didn’t realize it until recently. I love being out in the stars so much but I’m feeling strangely nostalgic for some fo the places from Kobliad. I admit I did not expect that,” Sair said she watched Koro walk along the edge of the path, pretending he was balancing on a fine line. It made her smile softly.

Sovrk nodded and looked upwards. “I can understand that. There is much one can miss about home. The stars are an exelent mistery and a wonder to be hold even if we do understand how they work, a work of natually occurring nuclear fusion. It can be a beautiful thing to behold especially up close… with so many things that we can and can’t understand in both the known and unknown universe. But still there is nothing like home, there are many small things that you never know you would miss until they are no longer there.” He said before tilting his head. “Koro, what are you doing? What.... puropse does it serve?” He asked curiousity creeping into his voice ever so slightly.

Koro paused in his balancing and looked at Sovrk. “Because it’s fun! Mama told me about funa… funra” He frowned, teh word not coming to mind the way he wished it would.

“Funambulism,” Sair said. “Someone told me about different forms of acrobatics from Earth, and there is one where they balance on a thin wire or rope high above the ground. It’s also known as tight rop walking. He’s been enthralled ever since. Koro has little fear.”

Sovrk stayed silent as he listened to them. After a bit he nodded “I see it would help with balance and cordination… ultimatly in situations where there is high danger and a need for the skill I could see where it woudld become useful.” He nodded and then gave a small snort. “Yes that I can see… just be careful then.” He said further and then turned his eyes back to Sair.

She sighed. “As for Kobliad, it’s complicated. It’s a very mixed place for me, a sometimes painful one, and there is a reason I went as far away as I could. I never quite intended for that to be in the Delta Quardrant, but that is how things worked out.”

“I understand. I have no doubt your reasons are valid for yourself. It may not be the same however a Holodeck may be able to abait some of your longing I would hope.” He said offering some slightly awakward words in an attempt to give some comfort.
