Shedda grinned in response. The doctor had a good personality. “Well not quite that long or just yet. I need my monthly pheromone suppressant before I leave.” Shedda’s medical file indicated that she was one of those rare people who was capable of controlling her pheromones, but that she chose to take the monthly suppressants anyway.

“Of course!” Ben said, momentarily forgetting that is one of the few medications that required a nurse to administer them. “But at least you won’t be getting the Spanish Inquisition each time; at least, until your next medical.” He stated, with a wry grin.

Shedda shrugged with a smile. “I don’t mind the inquisition. The more people ask, the more they know, and the more rumor and myth is replaced by fact and experience.” she waited patiently while the hypo was prepared. In another few months, Shedda would take a week off, lock herself in her quarters and let the suppressant run out. As much as she hated having the pheromones, controlling them was not a skill she wanted to lose. So she would take the time to practice, alone where it wouldn’t affect anyone. ‘Friends’ often asked why she didn’t take her vacation and to Risa and practice her skill there. They weren’t objectionable. It was because the whole thing was objectionable to Shedda. She certainly wasn’t looking to perpetuate the Syndicates hold over their mysterious ‘power’. Those were thoughts for later though.

One of the nurses, who had been listening in to the conversation, quickly prepared a hypospray whilst Shedda was speaking. As he came over, he address the Executive Officer. “Ma’am, your suppressant.” he said, raising the hypo. He waited for the cue from Shedda before administering it.
