Fayth chuckled lightly. “Have you seen the decor in there? And he knew where my sister is stationed.” Then he shrugged, “I’m sure you’re aware he’s somewhat of an… unexpected person.”

Sair smiled. “I have seen it, yes. And the captain is a very well connected, intelligent and resourceful person and he’s not afraid to use it where he needs to. What aspect of your meeting surprised you the most?”

“That he knew where my sister is stationed,” Fayth replied. “I’m unsure who she might know that her name would be familiar to our Captain. It’s not a big deal, but I’ve gone a long time in Starfleet without hearing anything about her, except from her.”

“Did he tell you how he knew, or did you ask?” Sair had her suspicions how Alex had learned the detail, but she was curious about how Fayth handled the discovery.

“Of course I asked, and no, he didn’t tell, though he seemed to find it humorous.” Eilah replied with a shrug. “Perhaps he knows someone on Oed.” He figured it was someone in Starfleet, either her Captain or someone else in command there.

Sair smiled. “Or it might be even simpler than that. As a Captain, he would be interested in the files of her senior staff and read it. It would not be hard to note another sibling that is also in Starfleet and simply check.” She crossed her leg at the knee. “Either way, we’re a long ways away from the Federation, so it’s not unwarranted that we all get to know each other a bit more than it might be typical. Tell me about being given this assignment after being on a starbase.”

“I didn’t request it, but I was happy to take it. I’m ready to get back to what I joined Starfleet for. To explore and meet new people.” Eilah responded easily. “The Starbase was busy and peaceful, which is good, but it just wasn’t what I signed up to do.”

Sair nodded. “What are your impressions of the Manhattan and the Delta Quadrant so far?”

~Sair Songz, CNS

“Can’t say much about the Delta quadrant, I haven’t seen enough of it yet,” Eilah said with a shrug, “so far it doesn’t seem too different from the alpha or beta quadrants. The ship…” He smiled, “I like a ship with some character. Manhattan definitely qualifies.”

~ Fayth, COS

She smiled and nodded. “It’s definitely a bit different than some. And being out here, gives us different opportunities. It also presents different risks. While there is a starbase on this side of the wormhole, we don’t have the same sort of safety net that we would back in the Alpha or Beta Quadrants. For someone in your position it presents new challenges. Have you thought over any of them yet?”

“This isn’t our space. We should be aware of the customs and laws of those that live here to the best of our ability. If we do something wrong, help may not be close.” Eilah replied seriously. “Weapons, both personal and ship should be kept in good repair. We don’t want to be caught defenseless if we do find trouble. My department should be trained in local customs we are aware of so we don’t accidentally offend anyone if we can help it.”

It was clear that Fayth had been very much thinking over it. That was good, so long as it wasn’t an all-consuming thing. “And then there is the fun of meeting new species. This ship has done some of that since its been here. And you might even do so sooner rather than later. How do you feel about that? Not just as a Chief of Security, but as a Starfleet officer as well.”

“It’s what I signed up to do.” Eilah replied with a grin. “There’s no better type of mission than a good, peaceful first contact.” He smiled. “It’s why I accepted such a… distant transfer.”

~ Fayth, COS

Sair nodded. “As a security officer though, if everything if good and peaceful, does that make it boring for you? How do you see your role working in those situaitons?”

“Boring? Peace is the best part of the job,” Eilah replied. “We patrol, we run drills, we interact with the crew. My team should never be bored.”
