Cochrane stood in the Ready Room and looked around. It was an odd feeling, standing in his office. This room, and the others like it on every vessel he had served on, had always been the haven of the CO; that room that carried with it a feeling of enormous responsibility and and air of authority… at least to Alex, they had. And now he stood in one, one that he had to step into and try not to flounder. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes for a moment, and organized himself. Around him were a few crates: some had personal belongings; some had various Command-related materials such as texts, notebooks, and optical disks with information he had compiled in his career.

Opening his eyes, he began sorting through the things he had brought for this particular room. Form one crate came a series of books and more than a few mementos of his time in Star Fleet. These he either placed on one of the low shelves around the bulkhead of the room. A few pictures found their way onto the walls, but it was a singular piece he pulled forma box that grabbed his attention. A brass Ox, etched with Earth Asian symbols, was pulled form the crate and lovingly examined by Cochrane. This he placed on a shelf behind the desk, and he adjusted it more than a few to make sure it was placed in the exact correct spot. Once that was done, he stepped back into the middle of the room and surveyed his now-decorated space.
