USS Manhattan
Calloway Quarters
Faye hated change and yet she was one of the most adaptable people one would likely meet. It had kept her alive long past the point when reason said she should just give up and die. Hell, even when she had wanted to die, it seemed that that was not to be her fate. So Faye fought hard to continue to exist in whatever way would give her at least a semblance of peace.
Chirp, Chirp
Turning towards her computer console, Faye noted the request for her authorization and she entered in the appropriate codes. Data began to stream and within a minute she began chuckling. “Overachiever.” She kept reading. “Oh, interesting.” Of course, Faye wasn’t talking to anyone but herself, but talking aloud felt better some days. She had pondered whether she should get a pet, like a cat or something, just to have the company, but so far hadn’t decided one way or another.
Sitting back, she pondered over this very interesting set of statistics, dates and events that made up the life of a person she had never met. On the surface, they were too pristine, too ‘good’. Their achievements at their age made her want to vomit. And yet, under the surface, when pushed, there was spunk and defiance and she always enjoyed a person who knew how to tell someone where to stick it.
This would be interesting. Such an inadequate word, interesting. And yet it was the one she kept coming back too. Well, soon enough she imagined she would find other more appropriate ones and with any luck any encounter would leaver her and her assignment intact.
