Many officers saw the mandatory boarding psych eval as a chore, a time waste, something they didn’t want to do. Eilah didn’t need it, he didn’t think, but he understood the importance of it and he appreciated the chance to meet the ship’s counselor for the first time, anyway.

Still using a map on a personal PaDD to navigate the ship, he made his way quickly to the right place. Eilah arrived at the door for the CNS’ office, rang the chime, and then waited patiently.

“Come on in,” a clear voice said.

Inside, Sair was beside her desk, holding a PADD she was reading, and looked over as the door opened. Standing fairly tall for many humanoid species, the Kobliad had lilac coloured hair pulled back off her face with a black soft headband. Her light brown eyes were deeply set amongst the prominent vertical facial ridges that split her hairline, intersected by thinner horizontal ridges. Most definitely on the lean side, the counsellor wore simple black trousers and a dark blue tunic that she had adopted as her version of a uniform. She did have a standard commbadge though.

A large area rug in muted blues, greys and greens spanned half of the therapy area in front of her desk and she had set a small round coffee table in front of a small sofa and two arm chairs, all in a blue-grey colour. Behind that was her desk with two basic chairs in front and a pale wooden shelving unit to the left by the replicator.

Next to the door was a stone sculpture that was half the height of the door. Carved out of white dolomite, it was a miniature replica of the giant tree that was in the lobby of he Assembly Complex in Kobliad’s capital. The tree had a wide trunk with the appearance of a thick bark and was easily deciduous with sweeping branches with teardrop shaped leaves. Carved around the trunk of the tree were arms with hands seeming to hold the tree and they wound themselves up the trunk.

“Hello, how might I help you?” she said, her face carrying a naturally stern expression.

Another crewmember with several inches on him. At this rate, Eilah might as well be short as his sister! He amused himself with the thought, turning the grin into a friendly smile. “Just a routine check in, if you have the time. If not, I can return later.” Eilah said, peeking at the decor inside the office. It was nearly as interesting as the Captain’s office. Hmm. He liked a ship with a crew full of personality. “Oh, yes. I’m Eilah Fayth, ship’s newest Security Chief.”

Sair smiled and gestured for him to come in further as she rose to her feet. “I’ve got time for walk-ins. Please, come on in and make yourself comfortable.” As it happened, she had been reading the latest transfer files over the morning and while she hadn’t read all of Fayth’s, she had a grasp of the basics. Hopefully that would be enough, and if not, well, she hoped they could figure it out.

“What stop am I in your boarding check-ins? And anything unexpected so far?” she said.

Eilah moved into the room, took a seat, and crossed his legs, ankle over knee. “The final stop. This tends to be the longest, so I like to save it for last.” He did not need time to consider her question, he answered it immediately. “My meeting with the Captain was… We could say unexpected.”
