Lowering her hand, Faye set the serrated blade on the table. “Of course you do…” she muttered, looking positively displeased. Why it was striking her so hard, she normally wouldn’t have wanted to analyze, but she had her suspicions. “Well, good luck,” she said, not bothering to hide her displeasure as she gazed that the meal between them.

Daggum stood up and began to walk past her, but he stopped and laid a hand gently on her shoulder. “The galaxy isn’t that big. I’ll buy you a proper dinner next time. Maybe even call it a date. Deal?” he said. There was a tone in his words that said that while he was disappointed, he also meant and believed what he said.

A part of her just wanted to shrug off his hand and give a non-committal ‘uh huh’. But it wasn’t his fault he was being reassigned and it wasn’t his fault how it made her feel. So, instead, she slowly rose to her feet and rested a hand on the one he placed on her shoulder. “Sure,” she said softly. Taking a step closer, she raised right up on her tip toes and planted a kiss on his check. Well.. she mostly was only able to reach his jaw, but the intent was the same. “Take care of yourself out there, okay?”

Daggum leaned over and took the kiss on his almost-cheek. “I will. You better do the same. I’ll be pissed if you stand me up.” he said softly but with a smile. Raising up, he looked at her for a moment, his hand lingering on her shoulder and then said “Later, Faye. Don’t forget about me… you know…” and he jerked his thumbs towards himself “… green thumb guy.” and he winked and walked out of the room. As the doors slid closed a loud repeat of the earlier colorful word could be heard with a louder “They better be stationing my big green backside on Risa for screwing this up!” and the pounding of angry Orion boot-steps faded away.

“I won’t,” she whispered towards his retreating form. Sitting back down, Faye looked at the food on the table and sighed. But she wasn’t hungry, so she just quietly recycled the food and left the Mess Hall, returning to her quarters where she knew she’d simply sulk, but at least could do so without any interference.
