“Really?” Koro said, his brown eyes wide with curiosity.

Kaia nodded. “You’ll have to ask someone else for advice, I couldn’t tell you what the best sweet things are.”

Sovrk fell silent. He continued to watch the others as he sipped on his drink.

Shedda looked around, there was a fairly decent crowd now. She caught Sair’s eye and nodded. “Alright, if everyone will grab a spot, drinks, or snacks we’re going to start the movie.” The ambient light lowered and after giving everyone a couple minutes to get settled the large screen brightened as colors and images began to play across it. The Croods began to play. “Would you like anything to eat, Sovrk?”

Sair grabbed some food and took her drink back over to where her mother was wrapped in a blanket in a chair. Koro came racing behind her and snuggled in to Sair, making her smile. She kissed the top of his head and exchanged a look with her mother, who beamed back at her. She didn’t look well tonight, but as always Kel put on a brave mask.

Kaia didn’t follow Sair or her family, instead making her way over to a tree with low branches and clambering up like a monkey into the tree, her tail wrapping around one of the branches for stability while her hands gripped the plate of goodies - mostly little bits of meat and cheeses, with a fruit or two. There she sat as the film began. A small purr escaped her when the Macawnivore appeared, and she paid closer attention after that.

Kaia, Engineer

Sovrk decided to grab a bag of popcorn. He seperated off giving the others an nod before he himself found a different tree. The Vulcan setteled beneath the tree, using the trunk as a backrest of sorts. He settled in and watched mostly quietly except for the small sounds of him munching on popcorn.

Shedda settled on a lounge chair with a hot spiced fruit drink and a slice of so.e ki d of pound cake. The movie was amusing and a d fanciful and the children seemed to enjoy it. That was the goal so Shedda couldn6co.plain about the outcome.

Koro watched the movie with deep fascination and Sair couldn’t help but smile. The themes of the show ran deep and were probably more obvious to the adults than the kids, and there was something about Eep that resonated with her. In her own ways Sair had been rebelling and chafing against the rules, the dictated order of things, for a long time. Being on the Manhattan so far seemed to be the biggest act of rebellion she could have executed, even if it was wrapped up in the properness of a medical exchange program.

As the film continued, Kaia’s attention began to wander away from the movie and towards the gathered crowd. It was quite a collection of people, from small families with children and teens to single individuals like herself. The whole thing reminded her of her own family, parents and siblings alike. It was nice to think of such a thing, although one thing was there that wasn’t something she was entirely familiar with. Grandparents. Parents of parents. She’d have to ask Sair about it later, since it was her child that had keyed Kaia into the concept. By the time any of her siblings would have kits, her parents would have passed of old age. Never to know the offspring of their offspring. It was strange to think that other beings did it differently.

Part way through the movie, Shedda got up and moved back over to the counters. She made sure the drinks were still warm and that there were still plenty of snacks available. She scanned the crowd breaking into a wide grin as she watched.

Koro ran back to the food and drink tables and was looking over the items. He beamed at Shedda. “Shedda, Mira said I could have another snack and it could be sweet again if I want. But I don’t know which one to pick.”

Meanwhile, Sair leaned over and chatted with her mother in a quiet voice.

Shedda grinned as Koro bounded over. “Hmmm…how about…these.” Shedda set four cookies on a plate. Two were sugar and 2 were peanut butter. “These are my favorite cookies. Sugar are the lighter colored ones, and these darker almost brown are peanut butter cookies.”

“I like cookies!” he said. “What’s peanut butter?” he asked, wide-eyed.

After a while Sorvk goes over to the table of snacks. He weaves around the perimeter so that he doesnt block anyones view and grabs another bag of popcorn and refills his tea cup. “I am not sure if I can see the appeal.” He said softly somewhat to himself.

Shedda looked up where she was pouring drinks. “Entertainment, Lt. focused at children. It is simple illogical entertainment. From a cultural perspective it is interesting to observe what Humans thought was suitable entertainment for their children 4 centuries ago.” She handed a cup to one of the younger children, who scampered off. “Can I serve you anything?”

Sovrk nodded. “Yes that much is obvious. Considering how Vulcans raise their young it is just much different from this. It is a bit different for me to wrap my head around something that would be considered illogical or ‘mindless’ entertainment. I am not nocking the way humans have entertained themselves thorough the centuries. It is just different from what I am use to and I have never really experienced this If I am to be fair. In my earliest memories, I remember playing with a pleenok.” He explained softly not to disturb the movie “I think I have already gotten everything I wanted, thank you Commander.”

Iliana crept in the back of the room and sidled up to Kaia. “What did I miss?” She whispered as she took a seat and opened a bag of popcorn.

Lt Kara (CE)

Kaia hopped down from the tree-branch she’d been sitting on and stood next to Iliana. The Holodeck was set up like an outdoor film, with a big screen displaying the movie while everyone sat on blankets, lawn chairs, and in Kaia’s case, halfway up a nearby tree. She explained the basics of the plotline. “Cavegirl wants to explore, her family is scared of everything. Meets Guy and his living Belt. And giant cat-macaw thing. Now bad things are happening and dad is not happy about it.”

Sair meandered over with a relaxed expression that hid many things. But she was glad she was able to bring Koro and her mother out. Her father was resting and she knew she’d probably have to take her mother back to her quarters sooner rather than later, but for now, she was enjoying the change in pace. She poured a glass of water, ruffled Koro’s head and smiled at the XO and CSO. “We might have to leave right after, but I’m glad you put this on, Shedda.”

“I am glad that you were all able to attend. What do you think, Koro? Should we do this more often?”

“I think we need to do this regularly. It’s good for everyone. The next film is a historical reenactment of the Federation-Klingon war.”

Sair frowned slightly. “Is that one for adolescents and adults? Or is it kid friendly in some way?” She might sit that one out, but then again, maybe she could find a way to explain it to Koro. That was a hard one, and war was not a topic she had been prepared to teach him about just yet, especially given their people’s generational trauma.

Sovrk listened to the other two as they talked, he thought that his opinion on the matter was irrelevant so he kept it to himself knowing that the culture that he was raised in was not the one that was going on around him, so he thought he would just listen to them as they discussed.
