It had been a couple of days since his arrival. Eilah was still settling into a new routine. He found himself with some downtime, and besides his own department, he had yet to meet more of the crew.Turning toward the lift, he asked the ship’s computer system where the XO was, and then headed there.

=/\=CMDR MAL’ATHAR IS ON DECK7 AUXILIARY BRIDGE.=/\=
The auxiliary bridge was 1/3 of the size of the main bridge and was tightly packed with various Cree doing routine maintenance on the equipment and consoles. They rarely had reason to use the space, but Shedda would not want to get caught needing it and things were not up to spec. She had just come around from the science station to sit in the center chair when the lift opened.
Mal’athar, XO
“Apologies if you’re busy, Commander.” Eilah said as he stepped off the lift and caught sight of all the crew working to upkeep the equipment. “I’m the new Chief of Security. Just making my rounds, getting to know everyone.”

Shedda stood giving him a bright white smile surrounded by her lime green lips. “Not all Cmdr. Please come join me. I’m mostly here so if anything goes wrong they can all point at me and say it’s my fault.” That elicited chuckles and snickers from around the space. “Have a seat. How was your trip out?”
Mal’athar, XO
Eilah stepped onto the auxiliary bridge with a smile and a chuckle. He took a seat when invited to do so, wherever was available to do so. “It was long. Very, very long.” He said, and smiled again, “Though not unpleasant.”

Shedda moved a stack of cabling and other engineering bric-a-brac out of the way. “You’re joining us from SB 52 aren’t you? That’s a planetside station? How are adjusting to being in space again?”
Mal’athar, XO
“Yes. It’s a fine station, but I was ready to be done with planetside assignments for a while,” Eilah responded. “Quite well. The motion, the humming of the engine take some getting used to, but I think once you’ve been on a ship for an extended period of time you never really forget how it goes.”
~ Fayth, COS
“That’s true. I spent a lot of time going back and forth between ships and digs. After the first dozen or so switches, I didn’t notice anymore. What questions can I answer for you?”
Mal’athar, XO
“How long have you been on the Manhattan?” Eilah asked, “You like it here?” As he spoken he glanced at Shedda, but mostly watched one of the engineers work.

“About two years.” She paused and Eilah would feel her surprise over that. Shedda was easy to read like all Orions, but he could tell she knew she was and was comfortable enough with her own thoughts to not be bothered by them being known. “I do like it here. It was an adjustment. Going from CSO and Second officer to First Officer. Cpt Cochrane and the rest of the crew are very welcoming. They made it easy. I’m an archeologist by training…”
“Cmdr?” an ensign walked over with a PaDD. Shedda scanned it over and nodded. “Take it down to the cargo bay and get what you need.” She pressed her thumb to the PaDD and the ensign left. She turned back to Eilah, “So all the cultures and people we get to meet is like a never ending gift day.”
Mal’athar, XO
Eilah thought it was nice, she was comfortable enough with herself and her thoughts to not mind them being known. He wouldn’t comment on it though. Like Sharah, he tried not to stick his nose where it didn’t belong just because his telepathy picked up a lot of what was around him. “An archeologist, huh? I bet that’s interesting,” he commented. “I accepted the transfer here for a similar reason. I wanted to get back to meeting new people, seeing new cultures. I can’t wait.”
~ Fayth, COS
“It’s exciting to meet brand new living cultures, rather than guessing. And there are plenty out here. There are some that are friendly. You will meet plenty next time we dock at Event Horizon. What else?”
Mal’athar, XO
“What’s Event Horizon? A space station?” Eilah asked. Then he shook his head. “Other than that, I can’t think of anything else to ask.”
~ Fayth, COS
Shedda’s eyes widened. “Your pilot didn’t do a fly by? Too bad it is really something. Event Horizon is the Federation space station on this side of the worm hole. All trafic in and out of the worm hole goes through the station. It is our home base. Our patrols take us far out, but we always circle back to it. Other than the station we are in our own out here. So tell me about yourself, Cmdr.”
Mal’athar, XO
“Nope,” Eilah said with a shrug. “Honestly he didn’t seem too thrilled to be coming out this way. Wonder if he was a little… eeked out by the wormhole, maybe.” He shrugged, “I’ve served on a couple different ships, most recently Starbase 52. There’s not too much to tell.”
