Sorvk gently ran his fingers aling his chin. “I see. Well, I like to keep at work, so likely even off duty I would be doing domething in my field of study. Experiments or looking for new discoveries.” He said. “Or, I do like to practice my hand at botany from time to time. I have not been close to many in my life.”

A sudden bit of inspiration hit Sair and she smiled. “Did you know we have a whole garden on Deck 4? There are raised beds for the crew, a greenhouse for starting seeds, a hill with a stream going down, a tropical glasshouse. There’s even a pond. That’s my son’s favourite.”

“I’m not suggesting you have to go and be social, but I think you’ll find many people who are cultivating in that space have at least one shared interest. And you can practice botany on a different level than one can usually do on a starship.”

Sair may have done what some may have thought impossible, as Sovrk raised both of his eyebrows. He had a look of surprise. “I did not know that. I have not been on the ship very long. But I may have to attend and look it through. I didn’t think that there would be many ships with an botanical garden.” He sounded a little… intrigued and happy though it was probably just some inflection in his voice. He cleared his throat and collected himself a bit. “Then if you would not mind maybe sometime I could have your son show me around.”

Sair beamed at him. “Oh, Koro will do so rather happily. He’s very excitable, so as long as you’re prepared for that and don’t mind, I think you’ll find him an excellent guide. I try to take him there once every day or so if I can. It just depends on what else is going on.” Her smiled faded ever so slightly but it was still genuine.

Sovrk nodded, “I should have no difficulties managing that. It will be interesting to see.”

“Now, is there anything else you feel you wish to discuss while you’re here?”

Sovrk looks thoughtful for a bit as a few seemingly long minutes pass. He soon shook his head. “I believe that I have talked about everything that is necessary.” He placed his hands in his lap “It has been an informative and interesting conversation Councilor.”

Sair smiled at him. “Well, I’m glad for that. Know that I am here as a sounding board should you ever need it- nothing needs to be wrong for people to stop by or make an appointment.”

“I’ll update your record and show you cleared for duty. You’re free to go, Lieutenant.”

Sovrk nodded and stood up. “It has been a pleasure Councilor. Thank you. I believe I will be in touch soon to get Koro to show me around the garden.” He said he didn’t raise his hand, but he said, “Live long and prosper.” Before he turned and headded towards the door.

Sair smiled as he left and leaned back in her chair. Trust Koro to be a source of connection for people. It gave her a sense of joy she wasn’t even sure she could explain.
