“Come on in.” The voice held an accent very rarely heard aboard Starfleet vessels. There was a rolling lilt to it that matched the cadence of her speech.”
Inside, Sair was sitting at her desk, finishing some patient notes. Standing fairly tall for many humanoid species, the Kobliad had straight pink coloured hair that fell to her chin. Her light brown eyes were deeply set amongst the prominent vertical facial ridges that split her hairline, intersected by thinner horizontal ridges. s she looked up, her base expression gave her something of a stern look. Most definitely on the lean side, the counsellor worse simple black trousers and a dark blue tunic that she had adopted in her previous stint on a Starfleet facility: her version of a uniform. She did have a standard combadge though.
A large area rug in muted blues, greys and greens spanned half of the therapy area in front of her desk and she had set a small round coffee table in front of a small sofa and two arm chairs, all in a blue-grey colour. Behind that was the desk she sat at, with two basic chairs in front and a pale wooden shelving unit to the left by the replicator.
Next to the door was a stone sculpture that was half the height of the door. Carved out of white dolomite, it was a miniature replica of the giant tree that was in the lobby of he Assembly Complex in Kobliad’s capital. The tree had a wide trunk with the appearance of a thick bark and was easily deciduous with sweeping branches with teardrop shaped leaves. Carved around the trunk of the tree were arms with hands seeming to hold the tree and they wound themselves up the trunk.
“Hello,” Songz said, gazing up and smiling, which softened her facial features. “What can I do for you?”
~Sair Songz, CNS
“Apparently I forgot to come see you when I boarded a while back,” Kaia said with a small sigh.
Kaia, Engineer
The Kobliad smiled. “Ahh, yes, one of many missing-in-action crew,” she said lightly. She gestured to the siting area. “Why don’t you have a seat and tell me your name, and how things have been since you boarded.
~Sair Songz, CNS
“I’m Kaia, and I’ve been doing well since I arrived,” Kaia said with a slight smile, looking at the seating area for a few moments before crouching down and leaping up onto it. I’m glad to be back on the Manhattan after my time off.”
Kaia, Engineer
“How long were you gone, and how has your return been?” Sair said as she moved over and took a seat in one of the arm chairs. Mentally, she was going through the list of oustanding evals and matching the name with the file.

“I was on leave for two years. I’ve been back for about three weeks. I took over some administrative tasks for the CE during the day shift, since we didn’t have a CE for a little while. I’m missing my family a little, but that’s understandable given I saw them just over a month ago. I’m glad to see a few familiar faces here, people who are still here from before.”
Kaia, Engineer
Sair nodded slowly. “And how are you adjusting to the changes? Anything particularly challenging?” As always, Sair was going to go where the conversation led and other than that she really was more focused on making sure certain things were in place and that the person she was talking to had the support they needed.
~Sair Songz, CNS
“Running administration in Engineering was frustrating since Ops wasn’t listening to my inventory requests, but the new CE fixed the issue when she got here,” Kaia said with a slightly nervous smile, blinking slowly. “Other than that whole situation, I’ve been settling in fairly well. It’s nice to be back in the engine room. I really missed the sounds of it when I was back on Oba.”
Kaia, Engineer
“What was it that made you decide you were ready to return to the Manhattan or Starfleet in general?” Sair asked. Maybe it was the same reason, maybe it was not. She would see.
~Sair Songz, CNS
“Honestly, I didn’t want to leave in the first place. Not truly. But my performance as an Engineer was suffering from my mental state due to how unused to being away from others with Basda’s. It is very different to be living in a situation where I cannot share my emotions empathically with those around me, and vice versa. I didn’t know how to handle it. I’ve had some training and counselling on Oba, and as soon as my trainer said it was safe for me to come back to Starfleet - and Manhattan specifically - I applied for a resumption of my commission. I have a limited number of years to be out here exploring the universe and meeting people I’ve never met before. I don’t want to miss a second more than I have to.”
While she spoke, Kaia’s eyes seemed to sparkle with eagerness, her tail-tip twitching as the rumbling purr under her words got stronger, her joy at being back expressing itself in her body language.
