Imma nodded and began lining them up in one big long line. Soon the other children had gathered around and were helping. Byrle helped Koro show Imma how to turn the blocks and create the outline. The children worked for almost an hour building and playing and knocking things down just to build it all over again. Imma followed Koro around copying whatever he was doing.
Shedda
Koro was utterly absorbed in playing with the other children, but every now again again he’d run over to Shedda excited about this or that. After awhile though, he bounded over with a bit less energy and leaned against her. “Shedda, I’m hungry.”

Shedda took several pictures with her PaDD and would chat away with Koro every time he ran over. Asking him about what he was doing or commenting on something he had done. The other children had started making similar requests as well of their teacher. She looked down, “Alright, go help your friends put the blocks away, tell them bye. Then we’ll go eat.”
Shedda
“Okay!” Koro ran off and began re-piling the blocks where they had been, his little legs hurrying him along. He gave Imma a hug and then one of the other children gave him one too before he darted off. But Koro stopped, turned and waved at them, before continuing back to Shedda. “All done, Shedda!”

“Great job! Thank you for helping, Koro.” Some of the other children ran up and Shedda thanked each one for helping too before grabbing Koro’s box and heading out.
Shedda led the way to a lift letting Koro choose if he wanted to hold her hand or not. “Deck 3.” Stepping off the lift when it opened she led the way and stepped up to the door that slid open for her. She set the box on a table and then swung him up, “Come on Koro. Let’s see what Chef Harv has made today.”
Shedda
Koro was feeling a newfound independence and was wanting to do much for himself, despite being almost three. But he also didn’t object to Shedda’s help. “What is a ssshef?” he asked, trying out the new word.

Shedda set him down on a stool by the counter and leaned against the counter. “A chef is a person who cooks. It is their job, it is what they want to do, what they are good at. Like your mom is a counselor and helps people feel better. Chef Harv likes to cook and make things for people to eat.” Shedda smirked slightly. She was sure Harv would find something g wrong or inaccurate with her explanation, but hopefully it got the point across for her young friend.
Shedda
He tilted his head curiously and nodded. “Food can make you feel better too! Mirane gives me cookies sometimes when I’m sad. And Mira says that food from home can make you feel better sometimes too.”

“Food is supposed to make you feel better.” a voice said from behind the swinging metal door to the kitchen. Chef Harv, the surly and often snarky Bajoran chef of the Manhattan’s Officer’s Mess stepped through. His eyes narrowed at Koro as he wiped his hands on the towel that somehow was always present on the ties of his chef’s coat and always clean. He leaned down so he was eye to eye with the child and then he said “Cooking is actually a kind of magic. Did you know that?” His voice was the typical gruff and curt it always was… but somehow, for the child, it was more endearing than confrontational.
Chef Harv
His big, brown eyes gazed intently at Harv and tilted his head. “What is magic?” he said, testing out the word with brimming curiosity in his tone. It was like harv was telling him some great secret and the small child was desperate to know what it was.
