Shedda held her hand out to him. “Then let’s go do that.” When they got to the door she looked at him. “Do you remember how to ask the computer to give you directions? Tell the computer you want to go to the ship’s store.” It was just a large room with industrial sized replicators, that could make larger or more complex things than what could be made in the smaller replicators in the quarters. There Koro could go through the whole replicator library.

Shedda

Hand in Shedda’s, the boy pressed his lips together as he thought. “Computer, show me the way to the ship’s store,” he said, giving Shedda a questioning look.

Shedda nodded with a smile.

“THANK YOU KORO. PLEASE FOLLOW THE PURPLE DOTS.”

The dots began moving away from the garden and towards a lift. “Alright let’s go.” They followed the dots down a couple of decks, the computer telling Koro when to wait and when to get off the lift. They entered a large room with several large circular looking cabinets. Holographic imaged floated and rotated above them. Shedda led Koro over to one and then grabbed a stool for Koro to sit on. “Now press this button and you can tell the computer what you want to see. It will show you an image. If you like it we can get it, or we can look at a different one.”

Koro clambered onto the stool and grinned as he looked around. Staring at the button, he reached out a pressed it and did his very best to say the word the way Shedda did. “I want to see a shawl,” he said. The one that came up was light and very plain looking. He looked up at Shedda and shook his head. “I want colour!”

“I agree,” Shedda tapped the button, “Show us shawls with at least 3 colors.” The hologram flashed and showed a shawl with stripes then a pattern of circles, diagonals, squares, chevrons, plaid, polka dots. All with three or four different colors. Shedda scrolled through them slowly.

Shedda

Koro looked at each one intently and propped his elbow on the table and his chin in his hand, pouting. “They not right,” he said in Standard. “Is there a sky one. Like at night. Like when the sun sets?”

“Well let’s ask.” Shedda tapped the control and requested, “Computer show me a shawl with a pattern like the night sky, and then one with the color of sunset from Kobliad.” The image stayed the same for a moment and then two images appeared in the specified designs, or close to them. The holo images rotated around above the table. Shedda manipulated the image of each, zooming in and out so that Koro could get a really good look at them.

His little face lit up and he pointed to the one that was awash with a gradient of colour. “That one! Can we get that one, Shedda?” he asked, positively vibrating with excitement.

Shedda smiled, “Yes we can. Here…” There were three different ones. Different thicknesses, materials, and hems. She had to computer replicate all three. “Pick the one you like and we will the computer take the other two back.”
