“Show me then,” Shedda chuckled, as did the other officers within hearing distance. Koro’s enthusiasm was impossible to not enjoy. Shedda didn’t really have to run, but she lengthened her stride to keep up with him. She ‘caught’ up with him just as he reached the door to the garden and scooped him up suddenly letting their momentum carry them through into the space and then swung him back down.

Koro giggled, enjoying the sweeping motion and brief moment of free-fall before his feet his the ground again. The Kobliad child looked around and with no set destination having been determined, he just ambled off to the right along the large hard path that went around the entire space. “We have picnics at the pond. Mama likes the big place though,” he said, pointing off towards the tropical glass house tucked in the corner next to The Hill.

~Koro

“The pond is wonderful. I like to sit on the edge with my feet in it.” Shedda followed the direction of Koro’s point, “You know I have never been in there. My favorite are the food beds. It reminds me of when I was little. Have you ever grown your own plants Koro?”

Shedda

Koro shook his head as they walked down the path. Continuing on in this direction they would pass by the glasshouse and The Hill after passing the one side of the food beds. “Mirane had pwants, but Mira said she kill plants. People easier,” he said, attempting Standard again.

~Koro

Shedda grinned hugely. She could see Sair saying that. She walked along with Koro, letting him talk as much or as little as he wanted. She didn’t want to lead the conversation, but rather let him share what he was comfortable with. He had also professed this was his favorite place, and favorite places held a certain magic about them for children, and Shedda didn’t want to break that magic by interjecting her adult perspective into that.

Shedda

Koro focused on the orchard to their right and in fact some of the espaliered dwarf trees seemed to be growing fruit. He wandered over and eyed the different shapes and colours. “We can eat these?” he asked, tilting his head as she gazed at the way they grew along some sort of structure rather than up into the sky like other fruit trees.

~Koro

“These are Anate fruit. We can eat them, but not until they are ripe.” Shedda looked up and down the orchard looking for one that might be ripe enough to pick. Finally she spotted one. “Look here, see this one. It is a mix of pink but the bottom is turning dark purple? That means it is almost ready. We want to find one that is all dark purple. Then we can pick it and eat it.” Sair had rold her Koro lived the garden, so Shedda had checked already to make sure none if the plants or food in the Garden would hurt him. “Why don’t you see if you can find us one.”

Shedda

The toddler ambled off the path and started poking about the dwarf trees, hunting for the perfect fruit. He mouth was set in a frown as none looked like Shedda had described. But then his brown eyes lit up and he bounced on his toes. “There!” he said, pointing to one just a bit above his head. “It too high.” It looked ripe from his perspective.

~Koro

Shedda walked over and looked, Koro was lucky, it was ripe. “Here,” she grabbed him by the waist and lifted him up the few inches he needed. “To pick it, twist it until it lets go. Then we can try it.”

Shedda

He giggled as she lifted him up and Koro reached out with both of his chubby hands and held the fruit and tried to twist. But it wasn’t quite the right motions and he frowned, and worked till he got the twisting motion right, his face screwed up with concentration. Finally it released and his arms dropped. “I got it!”

~Koro

Shedda set him down and sat, pulling a folding knife out of her pocket, “Excellent, now we can try it.” Shedda took the fruit and opening the knife, carefully - no flash here, she cut the fruit in half. She held them out like small bowls. “You eat the fruit inside.” She folded the jnife and put it back in her pocket before handing a ‘bowl’ to Koro. She pointed inside to the fleshy fruit that looked like a cluster of grapes from inside the rind. “I like this fruit because it comes with its own bowl.” She reached in and plucked one of the round parts and popped it in her mouth.

Shedda

Koro eyed the fruit in his hand but he rather intently studied it from different angles before even attempting to eat it. Then he poked the insides, watching how the cluster moved or didn’t. Finally, he picked one of the pieces and popped it into his mouth. His brown eyes went wide as it squished between his tongue and the roof of his mouth. It was sweet and a little tart, but not overly so. He was so surprised he said nothing before giggling. “Ou’en ko kyan!” he said. It tickles my mouth!

~Koro

Shedda smiled and popped a couple in her mouth. “The flavor does tickle. Do you think your Mirane and Mira would like to try? We could get them one before we go.”

Shedda glanced around and pulled a linger, wider piece of grass. She folded it in her fingers and then held it to her mouth and blew. It sounded like a kazoo.
