“I am really not much of a cook.” In truth Shedda could get by but a prepared fancy meal was not in her skill set. She probably could but had never had the desire to learn more than basics. “We lived very simply at home. Field to table really. We didn’t have the energy generators or means for replicators. My father grew a lot, but my favorite was Robola. It cooks well no matter how you prepare it or can be sliced and eaten raw. It’s a very crisp texture with a smooth light flavor. I was thinking of asking him to bring some to add to the garden beds.”

Shedda

“Is that a vegetable?” Kel asked.

“Sorry, yes it is. It’s native to the planet. Kind of a cross between a potato and a gourd vegetable.”

“Ahh” Kel said with a smile.

Sair scooped up the last of her yualra and felt a contentment as she chewed and swallowed. “Do you think you’ll get to see your father soon?”

Shedda grinned widely. “He is supposed to travel with Maava, and then stay for awhile to spend time with us and help out a little. Which means he will fret over everything and and have everything in perfect order before the week is out and may try to claim all the empty garden beds for a mini farm. I have already warned everyone down there not to let him.”

Shedda

Sair laughed. “Well I don’t know how much influence I have over the garden but I do look forward to meeting him. He sounds delightful.”

“I love my father very much. He loves growing things. He said he hopes it makes up for everything that came before.” Shedda shrugged, “I am glad he found something he loves.”

Having finished her meal, Kel got up and moved over to the coffee table, scooping up her grandson who squealed with laughter. “Bath time for you young man,” she said, hauling him off to the bathroom with a wink towards Shedda and Sair.

Sair laughed. “I love watching them together,” she said fondly.

“It’s special, isn’t it? Grandparents and the children. I’m glad your mother was able to come for awhile. I admit I miss my father a lot.”

Shedda

“I miss mine too,” Sair said. She waited till Kel was running the bath and sighed a little. “It’s been good having her here. We’ve had a strange relationship over the years. I all but grew up at the hospital and we’ve always had our work in common, but beyond that we are very, very different people who see the universe differently as well. It’s been hard at times.”
