Faye grooved to the music, standing next to her husband, a blissful expression on her face. Was it utterly strange to be dancing like this in public? Absolutely! And yet, she didn’t care. Wonders never ceased.

The music faded and Revna returned to her seat and raised her glass. “To Faye and Daggum. May you always fly together.”

Revna McKenzie (special thanks to Cascada Every Time We Touch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_osW9OINIA)

Faye clapped hard, beaming at Revna. “Thank you for that lovely surprise,” she said, feeling overwhelmingly giddy right now. And she couldn’t even blame that on alcohol since any in her glass was entirely neutralized.

As Revna sat down, Walker pushed his seat back and stood up.

“If I may, I wanted to propose a toast to the happy couple. And I promise you won’t have to listen to me sing,” Walker said with a chuckle.

“We’ll accept even small miracles on this ship, Chief.” Cochrane said witha grin.

“Faye, you spoke of fate bringing the two of you together. But fate also brought you into all of our lives. While I could do with a few less electrocutions or phaser blasts , I think I speak for us all when I say that we can’t imagine a life without you in it.

Faye snorted but grinned widely at Walker. If anything was true that things got plenty more interesting when she was around- even she couldn’t deny that.

“Daggum, while we have not had much of a chance to get to know each other yet. Anyone who can keep up with Faye though even half the stories she’s told us either has to be insane, or madly in love. Either which way, I saw a sale on body armor at our last stop, I think you are going to need it,” he said with a laugh.

“Picked upa gross. I hope you don’t mind me storing it in your quarters.” Daggum said with a smile.

Faye laughed. It could go with the rest of the packed stuff to be transferred when she left.

Picking up his glass, Walker held it up. “To Faye and Daggum. May you have fair winds and following seas in all of your adventures.”

“Here here!” came a response from many as glasses were lifted.

Finishing off his glass Walker sat back down.

Faye leaned over and kissed Daggum before sipping on her champagne, the tiny bubbles tingling her mouth.

Nadine grinned and pointed at Daggum. “It’s the groom’s turn now I do think,” she said, stepping to the side. If anything was obvious, it was that sister-of-the-bride was having a great time, even amongst a bunch of practical strangers.

Daggum looked at her and said “Ten minutes in this family and barking orders… yep. Definitely Shara’s kid.”

Nadine laughed loudly and winked. She wasn’t offended in the least. Quite the opposite actually.

He stood up and smiled and then took a breath. “If anyone had told me the first time I came through that worm hole that I would find my best friend and future wife in the Delta Quadrant, I would have taken them for a lunatic. But… it is exactly what happened. The very first time I met Faye, I knew there was something special about her. And though our first meeting was brief, I held onto that memory more than I realized until much later.” He took a small drink and smiled at Faye before looking out over the crowd.

“I didn’t realize that when I was having a rough day, memories of that meeting and those exchanges would trickle into my mind and I would smile. When I was ready to lose my temper and tear into a particularly stubborn Quartermaster or Dock Master… there was a part of my mind that would quietly say ‘Now what would Faye think of that?’.” Daggum laughed and then said “Faye probably saved more lives than she realizes.”

Faye chuckled. The best part was that the opposite was true as well. Daggum had tempered her and there were probably a few officers and crew on the Manhattan that were more intact than they would have been without his influence on her life.

Daggum’s face softened and then he said “And then one day… it all just kind of crystalized. All of those quiet thoughts and fleeting memories just came to the fore and I realized…” and he looked at Faye and smiled broadly, “… she was the one. I was in love.” and then he looked up at the crowd and said “And then I thought ‘Well crap! What the hell do I do now?’” and there was a ripple of laughter through the crowd.

“So… I called her. And we talked.” He looked at Faye, emerald eyes bright and seeing only her. “And then I kinda sent her a mushroom house for this very garden.” He looked up at everyone and said with a grin “Flowers wither and fade, people. But fungus? Fungus lasts.” and another roll of laughter.

Faye wiped at tears of laughter and her face hurt from grinning so much.

Looking back at Faye, he put his fingers on her chin and bent down and kissed her. Pulling back, he said “And I wouldn’t change a single thing because all of that brought us here… right now. And that is the best right now I have ever had.”

Daggum

“Me too,” she said with utter adoration as she rose to her feet and slipped her hand in his. Bringing his knuckles to her lips, she kissed them tenderly and looked up at him. “Okay, time for some more public embarrassment,” she said with a grin, backing away from the table and leading him to the dance floor. Lyrics mattered to Faye so the song they danced to had to be right.

REO Speedwagon it was. ..

I can’t fight this feeling any longer
And yet I’m still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show

I tell myself that I can’t hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
‘Cause I feel so secure when we’re together
You give my life direction, you make everything so clear

And even as I wander, I’m keeping you in sight
You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can’t fight this feeling anymore

I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
It’s time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
‘Cause I can’t fight this feeling anymore

I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor, come crashing through your door
Baby, I can’t fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you

I’ve been running ‘round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I’m following you, girl
‘Cause you take me to the places that alone I’d never find
And even as I wander, I’m keeping you sight

You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for

It’s time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
‘Cause I can’t fight this feeling anymore

I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor, come crashing through your door
Baby, I can’t fight this feeling anymore

Faye had moves, that was for sure, but here and now, she was happy to be in his arms, moving, swaying as if no one else was there. Much like going to the club on that magical first date where everything had felt so damn right, Faye just existed here with him. She was also memorizing these moments, the jokes, the feelings, so on the harder days that might be ahead, she could remember why she had take such risks and leapt so far. This. Right. Here.

There were more dances. She insisted especially on doing a Father-Daughter dance with Micah and though she could have said things, there was a part of her that understood that maybe it was enough.

And when the sappy family dances were over, Faye excused herself only to reappear a few minutes later. Her ‘dress’, as it turned out, was not a dress at all, but a separate bodice and skirt. She still wore the gauzy pale green bodice, fitted snugly to her body, but the skirt had been replaced by a pair of cream coloured pants and silver dance pumps. She moved to the middle of the dance floor, and pointed to Alex. “Okay Dude, your turn. You pick the song. Let’s show these people a thing or two,” she said with all the strange confident sass she never could have mustered a few years ago. But this was a different Faye and she liked her.
