Sair had family quarters, and though her mother had her own space in guest quarters, Kel spent most of her time here with Koro when they weren’t roaming about the ship.
“Come in,” Sair’s voice called over the comm.
As Shedda entered, there was a small blur followed by Sair whose arms were faster than the blur and swept up the small boy, tossing him over her shoulder as he giggled. “Come on in and make yourself at home in the chaos,” Sair said, exasperation leaching into her tone as she moved over to the sofa and set Koro down.
Shedda stepped in quickly so the door would close before the small blur could decide to race past her and out the door. Shedda grinned, her smile bright against her green complexion. At the moment Sair reminded her of Miss Karra, the aging Ferengi woman who ran the orphanage where Maava was. She didn’t know how the small woman managed to keep up with so many children.
The space was kept mostly tidy, with a dining table and sitting area. Koro’s toys were mostly kept to some baskets on one side, but clearly some had been strewn in a path towards the couch. Sair had attempted to decorate but it was mostly just some soft throws on the couch and arm chair, a colourful rug in greens and blue under a round wood coffee table and a few fake plants dotted about the place.
The toddler had brown hair that was parted away from his eyes by the gentle forehead ridge that intersected his hairline. He sat there with an impish grin as she gazed at Shedda with dark blue eyes.
Meanwhile, Sair had changed out of her work ‘uniform’ into a pair of dark grey leggings and a loose stretchy tunic in a dark green. She set a stack of plates on the table and turned back to the XO. “Shedda, this is Koro. Koro, this our first officer and my friend, Shedda,” she said making sure to pronounce the name clearly for her son. Koro just gazed at the newcomer with curiosity and maybe a tiny bit of apprehension.

Shedda moved toward the couch where Koro was sitting, but stopped near another chair, letting him have his space seeing the small amount of apprehension. She was glad that she had opted to change out of her uniform - be more casual. She knelt down, rather than bend over, so she was at his eye level. “Hello Koro,” she spoke clearly, not sure how used to the UT the boy might be and give him time to process what she was saying. “I am happy to meet you.”
Mal’athar, XO
The boy gazed at her intently, as if studying Shedda, before he broke into a tiny smile. “Hello,” he said in Federation Standard before looking to his mother. Sair nodded.
“Koro is absorbing languages like a sponge and I never know which he’ll start talking in,” Sair said, planting her hands on her hips. She was tired, but still very much looking forward to a casual dinner.
“My mother will be back in a minute. But anything you feel like eating, or conversely, anything you can’t eat? I do aim to not poison my dinner guests,” Songz said with a smirk.
