Shedda nodded, “Her record is spotless and her department is doing very well. She’s 6 months short of the minimum time though for promotion to full Lt. I don’t see anything in her record that would justify an early promotion. We can ear mark her for approval in the next batch though.” Shedda checked the record though to see why her file had been submitted 6 months ahead of time. Maybe there was something she missed.

Sair frowned. “I didn’t know there were restrictions on promotions. Well this complicates things,” she said with a sigh. How could she make effective suggestions if there were swathes of things she didn’t know? It was another tally in the column of reasons why being a civilian in this role was harder than it might otherwise be. “In any case, I think at least a personal meeting from the command team to let her know that we’ve noticed the great work she’s doing would be a good idea.”

“A certain amount of time is required at the current rank level before you can be promoted. There are stipulations that allow early promotion, but it was put in place to ensure we don’t end up with officers with only two years of experience as Lt. Cmdrs. That they have the time and experience behind them to support the rank. We can go ahead and approve the promotion but it won’t go in effect until she’s met the time requirement. But I will go see her and let her know we are pleased with her performance.” Shedda switched files on her PaDD and added Janice Casey to the list of people she needed to speak with in person. Shedda got up and went to the replicator getting a large glass of ice water and then returned. “Alright....so next is....security. Master Chief Hoeverm.”

Sair took a moment to skim the file and remember why it ringed a bell. But the reason for that was not one that mattered for this evaluation. “They are doing their job to the best of their ability, even if it seems like their heart isn’t in it. But they have been doing good work and are well liked by the team. It’s a positive review from me, but I would avoid pushing them to do better than they are for at least a few months for personal reasons.” She didn’t like being cryptic but she would not break confidentiality here.

Shedda made a note of Sair’s caution. “I made a note and will tread lightly.” Shedda had no desire to break confidentiality and as long as it didn’t affect work or ship/personal safety she has no reason to pry.

This department took awhile with having rotated through a couple of Department heads and now lacking one. As that department wound down, “Cpt Cochrane and I will be discussing the COS position tomorrow, but does anyone stand out to you for that promotion or interim aCOS?”

“Ummm…” Sair searched her list of names, looking for the one that might work. “Lieutenant junior grade Car’ex seems to have great leadership abilities. I think with a bit of guidance they’d do well as interim Chief, and then when we get a new Chief, perhaps being Assistant DH would be a good step for them. A little encouragement there would go a long way.”

Shedda tapped out a message to Cochrane, ‘In addition to our other candidates, I spoke to Sair and she suggested we look at NL jg Car’ex for aCoS.’ she attached the file for him to look over. Then she turned to the next file and paused. “I think,” she stood and stretched, “we may finish these today, but I am fine if you want to break and start again tomorrow. We only have medical left.”

It would be a push to finish today, but they had been at it for quite awhile. And yet, having to come back to it tomorrow when they were so close when they were in a rhythm with it all seemed pointless. “Let’s keep going, but since we’re been at this so long, how about dinner after? You can always meet my mother and Koro then.”

“That sounds like a plan.” Shedda glanced at the PaDD as she resumed her seat. “Chief Petty Office Nesyav. Says he’s a medic and is requesting approval to enter officers’ school for nurse training. I’m inclined to approve it. I don’t see a reason to deny anyone a chance to expand their training. His supervisor supports it, but have you spoken to him about it?”
