“They do grow fast,” Sair said, flashing a grin. “Surprisingly fast.”

Songz began a slow circle of the room, making notes on her Padd with a stylus. “Have you arranged childcare? A job as busy as yours, you’re going to need support there.”

Shedda nodded, “The ship has day care for all shifts. I’ve already spoken with them about her unique dietary needs and I’ve requested an extra sunlight lamp for them to keep there for her. If the adoption goes through, my father will be traveling out here with her. He intends to stay for a little while, and the request has already been approved. He’s rather excited to be a grandpa. Said he’s going to make the most of his time. I’m sure there may be times I may want someone to come here and not the day care, but it’s so hard to know who to ask until I know who Maava will take to.”

“It’s a process, give it time,” Sair said knowingly with a smile. “And having a family come help with the transition can work wonderfully, as I know for myself.” She was trying to keep this light since it could be a stressful process, but Songz also had to maintain objectivity and file a factual report.

“Can you show me the modifications you’ve made here in the quarters?”

Shedda glanced around the room taking mental inventory of what she’d done. “So I moved the office space into the main living area. That way Maava has her own room, but I can also be out here with her if I have to work. The shelves have all been fronted with plexiglass so she can’t climb the shelves, or pull up on them and the contents fall on her. I had a weapons locker put into the bulk head in my room to secure my phaser, rather than just a lock box. I had all the controls changed to biometrics so she can’t accidently open or access anything. I had Ops in to make sure all the panels were secure and won’t pop open easily. And the sunlight lamp in her room I had mounted to the wall so she couldn’t grab it and it tip over. I had the crib secured to the wall as well. The dresser is built in. Oh and I had the size parameters for the door activation changed for just adults.”
