“For the most part,” Siar said as she claimed one of the armchairs. Everyone has been very supportive and patient. It’s been a few years since my last stint so I have to try and remember all those regulations you officers have memorized. That and I’m used to working within a particular space I know easily so I’m getting lost on this ship all the time. But it’s certainly making it interesting. That and it’s a surefire way to meet new people,” she said with an open laugh.

“If you need someone to help you learn to navigate the ship I would be happy to help, or we can get someone from security to give you a tour or two. Don’t forget to use the LCARs panels as well. Just ask the computer to show you the way and then follow the dots.”

“How are you faring so far?” Songz asked.

“The ship’s day rotation is a bit different, all ships are, and I was on several on my way out here, so I am adjusting a bit but nothing out of the ordinary. And so far I am enjoying the challenge of my new position. Though finding a quiet place to simply think seems to be…a challenge.”

“How so? It’s a large ship. Is there no where you can find a bit of peace?” Sair asked. Everyone approached the day-to-day challenges differently adn Sair also knew she came from a people with a particular mindset that permeated everything. So as much as she was probing to understand Shedda’s perspective, she was also simply curious.

Shedda grinned slightly, “Oh I’m sure there is. My quarters being one. I have only been here a few days but it seems that people just appear wherever I find quiet. Coincidence and maybe a bit of wanting to meet the new XO. I meant it in jest, Counselor. Sometimes my attempt at humor doesn’t execute well.” She shook her head ruefully. “In actuality I enjoy those spontaneous encounters. The interactions, for the most part, are more genuine, less trapped in protocol, than me walking into a shift briefing.”

“Indeed, I can imagine so. As for the humour, Kobliads as a general rule don’t have much of one, and even people like myself who aren’t as serious as others tend to take things more at face value. So I will add that asterisk to our conversation so that we don’t misunderstand each other and I will try to see the humour in things,” Sair said with a wide grin.

Shedda nodded making note of it as well for future conversations.

“Now, I did read all the personnel files of the senior staff and assistants on my way here, but you were also in transit, so can you fill me in? What should I know about you,” Sair said openly.

“I’m driven, at times to the exclusion of everything but what I am working on. I entered Academy 2 years early. I am told I managed that because I am so bright. I think it’s because I was too stubborn to give up. I love my work in science and learning about other cultures and civilizations. I enjoy mentoring others and how command stretches and challenges me.” Shedda took a deep breath, “And I hate my mother and everything she represents.”
