Songz Arrival

Gathering her bags, Sair moved over the the runabout’s transporter pad. While not a common mode of transportation for her, she had once again grown accustomed to it in the few weeks since she had left Kobliad to do some refresher training and then make her way out to the wormhole.

Sair had to brace her hand tightly as it opened up and their ship slipped into the vortex. It was beautiful. Terrifying, but beautiful.

A brief transfer at Event Horizon and Sair had gone to rendezvous with the Manhattan, her new home.

Tiny kispa bugs bounced around in her stomach as she realized how far away from Kobliad, and Koro, she was and exactly what she was about to do. But she inhaled deeply and remembered the decisions that had brought her here. And Kal.

She had gone to see the former Starfleet officer and her partner, Tol, before she left. After returning to Kobliad after her first exchange stint, Sair had regularly visited with Kal and her daughter Tai- the first child born free of the mutation and whom Sair had helped deliver. For a former emergency room physician, returning as a counsellor and to look upon that chapter of her life with new knowledge helped her understand even better how courageous people like Kal and Tol had been. How courageous she herself had been.

Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a large round holographic locket, sans chain. Squeezing the sides activated the image of her and her son and she smiled. Yes, this was worth it, of that she had no doubt. A moment later, the air shimmered and Sair beamed off the runabout.

Her new view was of a transporter room and Sair stepped off with one bag on her shoulder and another in hand. “Hi! I’m the new counsellor. I’m supposed to go see the Captain. Can you tell me how to find him?” After the transporter chief confirmed Cochrane was in his ready room, and gave her directions, Sair set off through the corridors after the chief said he’d make sure her bags got to her quarters.

And promptly got lost.

To be fair, she had spent her travel time reading as many personnel files as possible and the whole idea of looking over the ship specifications never occurred to her. Now she wished she had.

What deck was she on anyway? Ah well! She’d figure it out. And as she wandered, checking the labels on doors, Sair started to hum.

In the ready room, the comm sounded. =/\=Transporter Room One to the captain. Our new counsellor just arrived and I’ve sent her up to you.=/\=

=/\= Understood. =/\= Cochrane replied as he continued to read the file on the new Counselor. She was impressive, and he hoped that she would be a good fit.

Twenty minutes later, Cochrane finally said =/\= Computer, location of the CNS. =/\= The computer chirped and the voice said =/\= Counselor Songz is outside Main Engineering on Deck Sixteen. =/\= Cochrane scowled and said “What?” and then he tapped the comms. =/\= Bridge to Security. Please find the new Counselor and escort her to the ready room. She is currently outside Engineering, Deck 16. =/\=

Cochrane, CO

To be fair, finding said new Counsellor wasn’t difficult. She was the slightly awestruck woman taking everything in raptly.

That, and she had purple hair.

When she had been at Starfleet Medical, one of her colleagues had called the shade lilac and she liked the sound of the word and how it rolled off her tongue. LIE-Lac. Lyyy-lac. Never mind that there was a similar word in her language that referred to the sounds a korlac mad when it was angry. It was completely the opposite to her, so it amused her.

A pair of officers in gold approached, a Bolian and what she thought was probably a Human. “Ma’am? Are you the new counsellor?” the Bolian asked.

“Indeed, I am! Hi! I’m Sair! Sair Songz.” she said with a wide grin.

“The Captain asked us to escort you up to him.”

“Ah yes, I was trying to get there, but I seemed to have gotten distracted and a little lost. I’m not sure where I am exactly, but now you’re here!”

“You’re at Engineering. On Deck Sixteen,” the female Human said.

Sair frowned slightly. “Oh, dear me! That is quite turned around, now isn’t it? But never mind. Onwards, or… upwards to the Captain?” she said with a gleam in her eyes.

The security officer tried really hard to keep a straight face but the Bolian laughed aloud. “Upwards it is. This way Ma’am.”

“Ugh, none of that formal stuff. I’m a civilian, after all..”

The two officers exchanged a glance and smiled as they led her to the turbolift. Which provided Sair with a nice little refresher on navigating around a Starfleet facility. And then of course was that flush of embarrassment as she realized that had she just remembered to call out Bridge, it would have gotten her right there. Ah, well! Her first day was bound to have a few mishaps, but like always she let them roll right off of her.

When they finally arrived at the bridge, they were laughing and joking together, making a rather boisterous amount of noise, all told. But if Sair noticed the curious looks as they walked over to the ready room, she showed no sign of it. “Well, I’m here it looks like. And I’m decidedly glad I’m not a pilot!” she said with a wink towards the helm. Meanwhile, one of her companions pressed the chime.
