Deck 4 Garden- It's Who you Know

Revna laughed, “He’ll be disappointed if you don’t at least ask. He talks all big about being retired and away from it, but he lives for his music. It makes him whole. I mean the man can pour a mean drink, and he’s a genius with holoprograming, but it’s his music that really shows who he is. I know what you mean about being yourself. I was lucky, I grew up with a very close clan, but Mike, he sees all the facits of myself. He never wanted me ‘on the clock’. It doesn’t hurt I get my own private concert whenever I want,” Revna’s smile was slightly more a smirk than a grin. “But you will have to meet him, next time we’re docked at the station. And maybe your Daggum will make it as well. So, I’m being nosey, what’s it like to be engaged?”

Revna McKenzie

The goofy grin that seemed to be hiding permanently under the surface popped back out and Faye exhaled. “Bizarre,” she said with a laugh. “I mean, I have never been so happy in my entire life the way I am now, and I don’t know if a wedding will change that. If anything it’ll just cement it further. But I’m still trying to figure everything all out. As Alex likes to say, I do everything backwards,” she said with another laugh. “So I might be the wrong person to gauge what it’s supposed to be like.”

~Faye Calloway

A soft and conspiratorial laugh issued forth from Revna. “So what if it’s backwards, if you are happy then that’s what it’s supposed to be like. And if it feels a bit Bizarre, how amazing is that? To be awed by the chain of events, absolutely certain it’s perfect and right, and so happy that people around you know it without asking because they can feel it too. And when you’re together, everything just becomes more.” Revna stopped and flushed just a bit at herself, “Sorry I didn’t mean to go on like that. But really I’m too old to act like a giddy teenager, but that’s how I feel.”

“Giddy, yeah, that’s the word for it.” Faye said softly. She had been a rather moody teenager and never one to be bright and bouncy. But there was a part of her that was just that right now and it was new and wonderfully strange.

“I have no way of knowing what it should be like, I didn’t exactly get engaged. Well I guess if we’re technical about it, we were engaged for 10 minutes.”

Faye chuckled. “How exactly did that work anyway?”

~Faye Calloway

“Oh umm....well…” Revna laughed softly. She tipped her head to the side slightly, “Have you seen the vid of Big Mike McKenzie and the mystery woman that swept the media feeds about the time Manhattan docked at Event Horizon? Actually it’s still making the rounds. I ask because the events from that video are critical to the story.”

Revna McKenzie

Faye smirked. “Oh, I’ve seen it. Wouldn’t be much of a counter-intelligence officer if I hadn’t, now would I? But I promise I won’t try and make you sing.”

~Faye Calloway

Revna flushed. Only for Mike would she sing in public like that. “Remember I said there was a misunderstanding? I hadn’t heard from Mike, for weeks. Faye I was....soul sick. I had sent him a letter, but he hadn’t answered, so I took the position out here on the Manhattan. So skipping over the long, sad trip out I arrive on the station. What I didn’t know is Mike had already been on the station for 10 days. So I get checked into my room and eventually go down to the bar. I was not in the mood to socialize, and was considering going back to my room when the house lights went out. And then there he was at the piano on the stage.”

Revna pauses, and looks down at her arms and laughs, “Still gives me chills. So skipping forward through the vids, Mike says, ‘Let’s get outta here. We stand, bow, and go out the back, okay?’ And I just went along with it. What do I know about performing, right? And honestly he was there I would have done anything. So right before we take our bows, he turns his back to the crowd and whispers in my ear, ‘I love you, Rev. And someday I’m gonna marry you.’ My clan is still very traditional and we have our own ways, so does Mike’s clan. So 10 minutes later, according to our traditions, we were married. We filed with the magistrate the next day.”

Revna McKenzie

“Ten minutes! Wow!” Faye said with a laugh. “Dag and I contemplated eloping but it was a idea for me. But for him? If he really wanted it? Yeha I’d have done it,” she said with a warm smile. “I like your Mike already. I have to admit, he’s got style!”

~Faye Calloway

Revna sighed rather dramatically and leaned her head way back looking at the ceiling of the garden, “He’s got more style than I can keep up with.” She lifted her head and looked back at Faye, laughing, “But I wouldn’t change it. His style makes life amazing. You know at the time we didn’t even think about the fact we were eloping. It was just…right. I knew nothing was going to change how I felt about Mike. It was our moment and we claimed it. And your moment with Dag will be just as amazing.”

“The fact we ‘eloped’ hit us about…oh a few hours after we’d gone to the magistrate to file our marriage.” Revna began to laugh so hard her eyes watered. “So…of course by the time we got to the magistrate the vids were everywhere. Mike used his…clout to get us an early appointment with the magistrate. We walk in…” she laughs harder for a moment. “She says hello to Mike and then looks at me really funny and goes, ‘and you’re her.’ I’m still so wrapped up in the fact we’re married I just nod and go, ‘I am.’ It took me till we left the woman’s office to figure out she didn’t mean I was his wife, the person whose name was going on the marriage license, she meant I was her from the vids.”
